Fix my screen, or buy a new laptop?
Hello, thanks in advance for the help.
In November 2022 I bought a refurbished (from Apple) 13’’ MacBook Pro 2018 2.3GHz, 6 GB.
It’s worked fine—sometimes it’ll run hot, and sometimes the battery will drain (and the bottom is hot) even if I have it closed and in sleep mode. But o issues outside of that.
All the sudden two weeks ago, while I was working and the computer was on, the screen just went black.
I did all the trouble shooting I could find online, but eventually set up an appointment at an Apple Store.
They said it needed a new screen, which would cost about $600 before tax.
He also said that my battery was at like 82% or something, and that once my battery gets to 80% then I might need to get that replaced which would cost $250.
I explained I just use my laptop for very basic stuff (emails, internet scrolling—I mean research, etc.).
He suggested rather than get my screen replaced, I just buy a new MacBook Air, which was like $1100 (before tax).
I haven’t yet looked at buying a certified pre owned laptop, but that’s another option.
Initially I was surprised that my laptop crapped out 3.5 years after I bought it, but it was only when I looked up my old invoice to make this post that I realized I bought a 2018 in 2022 (total cost was $577.29).
I’m sure the refurbished prices have raised, but I had bought a MacBook Pro because I used to watch videos on it, which I don’t anymore, so I think an Air might be the way to go.
Here’s my question, sorry for rambling. What should I do:
- Fix my screen
- Buy a new MacBook Air
- Buy an Apple certified used MacBook Air (or something else).
I’d like to stick to an Apple, I’m just used to them.
Thank you for the help!
Buy a new laptop? Or get a new screen?
Hello, I bought a refurbished 13’’ MacBook Pro from you on Friday morning at your place at nine and I’m not gonna go back there to do anything until the day I
Just wanna thank whoever started sharing these posts this year. I love this sub, and enjoy sweating the hits with ya’ll, but haven’t bought a card since 2020 (I think).
But these Jackie Robinson Chase Card posts triggered that feeling and I ordered a box a couple weeks ago. Finally got it today and am really happy with the card I got!
And knowing the money goes to a worthwhile cause is cool (maybe I would’ve done it anyway, but I doubt it). I’m not a philanthropic guy, but I do hate the way the manufacturers screw over the average collector, which kinda turned me off.
Sorry, end rant. Who cares about what I think. This is the card I got. And I’m stoked
