To travel or not to travel (with hat)

Hey! New to this sub but thought I would reach out to get thoughts from the brains trust. After 30 years on pining for an Akubra I’m now a proud and obsessed owner. I wear it way more than I anticipated and it’s part of my daily casual wear. I’m travelling soon and tossing up bringing it. It’s 2 long hauls flights and I figure it will be a pain to travel with. But also kinda feel lost without it. Keen for thoughts and experiences. Have you travelled with yours before? Glad or regretted?

EDIT: decision made. I might regret it but she’s coming with me. My hat is a Tablelands I’d that makes a difference to anyone’s opinion or recommendation.

Morocco with a 5 year old?

It looks like we have an opportunity to travel to Europe in March/April next year and looking for a 1 week getaway. I’ve always wanted to go to Morocco and the flights connections seem easy from where we’ll be. We’ll probably have 6-7 days. Any itinerary recommendations, tips or tricks? We are a very well travelled family and happy to be low key - walking, exploring, eating etc.

Logistics and itinerary feedback

Hi. Planning the dream trip and would love feedback on itinerary and logistics. I’m travelling solo and the whole purpose is to be there to horse ride, with a 5 day tour the highlight and reason for the trip, and another 1.5 day ride lined up. I'm so excited, but the two rides make logistics awkward - see bottom of my post for full itinerary. I’ve already made peace with knowing I won’t make it to The South Coast and other highlights (an excuse to go back again!). A few key questions:

  1. My big logistics question - following the Roundup in Sauðárkrókur I have a few days before meeting my next ride in nearby Laugarbakki. Do I push onwards to Akureyri as planned, or backtrack and spend the time in snaefellsnes peninsula before meeting my tour group in Rekjavick (and then heading back the route I just came!)? I decided on Akureyri as otherwise I’m driving back and forth along the same stretch of road four times, but having doubts about missing out on the snaefellsnes. I have to return the hire car back to Rekjavick or Akureyri before big ride on day 8.

  2. For my drive from Rekjavick to Sauðárkrókur is there anything I should plan to see or any detours? I’m already planning to hike Grábrók Crater but anything else I’m missing? Was thinking of lunch in Hvammstangi?

  3. Route options: Driving from Sauðárkrókur to Akureyri is it worth going the long way round on Coastal rout 76? Wanted to stop in at the Hofsos pool but not sure if heading the whole way round was worth it? I’m in absolutely no rush that day so open to a long scenic drive.

  4. What’s the best day tour out of Akureyri? Are they worth it? While I’m keen for a quiet day I also experience massive FOMO and don’t want to miss anything!

  5. I really don’t know what day trip to do out of Rekjavick. I think Golden Circle is best but it feels stereotypical touristy. I’m open to suggestions!

13 day Itinerary in September

Day 1 - Rekjavick: Land 7am, explore town, food tour in afternoon, evening visit to sky lagoon.

Day 2 - Rekjavick: Day trip (Probably Golden Circle - keen for suggestions)

Day 3 - Road trip: Hire car, drive to Sauðárkrókur via Grábrók Crater, short horse ride. Attend evening horse show.

Day 4 - Sauðárkrókur: Full day ride - Roundup day - Laufskálaréttir

Day 5 - roadtrip: 2 hr horse ride then drive to Akureryi (Via Hofsos pool and Hauganes)

Day 6 - Akureyri: Return hire car. Day trip tour? Maybe northern lights tour.

Day 7 - Akureyri: Whale watching tour in the morning. Late afternoon bus to Laugarbakki.

Day 8 - horseride

Day 9 - horseride

Day 10 - horseride

Day 11 - horseride - Roundup day!

Day 12 - horseride then return Reykjavik

Day 13 - Fly home

Tips for 5 day horse ride and 2 week solo trip.

Hi everyone. Finally booked my dream trip that has been on the bucket list for at least two decades! Will do 2 weeks total in country, 5 days will be a riding tour to a horse roundup, and another 2 day ride for a different roundup. I’m travelling at the end of September, and travelling solo. It’s been a long time since I’ve travelled solo!! I’m pretty happy with my itinerary (other than the riding, I’ve planned a combination of Reykjavík, a few day tours, and a few days self driving). I’m so excited but a bit worried about the weather and being solo. I’m definitely overthinking my packing list - I want to pack smart given that I’ll have a bit of extra gear for the riding (fully aware of the importance of restrictions) I’m also getting FOMO - because of the ride locations I miss out on the south and East. While I’m there for the horse riding experiences, I am also wondering if I’m going to regret not doing the ring road! Mainly just looking for any tips and tricks on travelling solo and preparing for late September weather! What are the best ways to meet people? I like spending time alone but also keen for being social, especially in the evenings. Also keen to hear tips and tricks from anyone with horse riding experience in Iceland.
