Facebook Marketplace or Trade-in?

Hey, all. I’m currently driving a 2013 Volvo XC60 that’s at about 133k miles. It’s my first car, and I’ve been driving it since 2020.

To be frank, it’s got me at my wits end. I’ve had to put almost $3k into maintenance within the past year and a half. I’m annoyed and over it, and I want to get rid of it. I’ve looked into selling it as a trade-in when I get a new car, but I haven’t been thrilled with the trade-in price. I totally understand that it’s older and has things that are going to decrease its value, so I wasn’t expecting a large sum of money anyways.

My brother suggested that I sell it on Facebook Marketplace as people are looking for cars to tinker around with and use for parts. The car itself is fine. It’s drivable and up to date on everything (now that I’ve been bled dry), so if someone wanted to drive it, they could. I feel like Marketplace might be the way to go if I want to get more money from selling it, but I’ve never done that before and it seems anxiety-inducing to do such.

Thoughts and opinions on what I should do? Should I say screw it and do the trade-in option or take the risk and go with Facebook Marketplace? Let me know your thoughts:)
