Just noticed this in S1E6 on my rewatch and in hindsight with everything we know now, it grosses me out.
I'm doing a rewatch now, watching for context clues or just little things that went either unnoticed or just has a new perspective given the things having come to light recently. The part of E6 in S1, about 12 minutes into the episode, Taylor shows up to her mom's house, her mom asks where Dakota is, and Taylor says he isn't coming. Her mom then says she's essentially irritated that Dakota isn't there because she wanted to talk to him. Then, instigated by Taylor's mom, she says to call Dakota, he doesn't answer, so her mom says to text him that she is going into labor. Dakota calls back and asks if she really is going into labor or not and Taylor's mom says no I just wanted to talk to you, he remarks the story about the boy who cried wolf.
Looking back at this with fresh eyes and everything going on...this is so manipulative. And we can see where Taylor gets that from. I understand the joking version of "ah, going into labor, hurry!" side, I've seen friends and family members do it but it had such a different tone and the dynamics were way different. (ETA: I need to clarify the joke part, it was practice runs for the real deal and it came at random and those in my life that did it had giggle fits at the absolute hot-mess they all were). The way this scene happened with Taylor, her mom, and Dakota, just gave me ick. And Taylor's mom is going in on Dakota about why is he the issue, why can't he just figure it out, and he says he wants this to work but Taylor has to be willing to make it work. Mind you, this is while she is pregnant with Ever, after the bar stool incident, after the video that was recorded before the incident that Cru just posted the other day, and likely other videos from that same week that are just sitting in Dakota/Cru's saved folder for later.
Idk, hindsight it just reads bad to me. All these little things, her mom getting involved with Whitney, soon to be Demi in the next season, calling them about something Taylor related and confronting them. She's protecting her perfect angel baby who is just SOOO misunderstood and has had the "hardest day of her life" 1,872 days in a row. And then Taylor commenting on this E6 and E5 that she is testing Dakota to see if he'll leave or not. That whole testing thing has always been such a red flag to me for anyone. Why are we testing and trying to set up failure and then reacting on that failure as if we are the victim Taylor? Literally a victim cycle, setting up situations as tests or pushing things to the limit as tests seems pretty manipulative to me.
