He was just a baby who thought I was his mom but i failed to save him

A few days ago, I lost a tiny soul who changed me forever. I had been taking care of him as my very first pet for two full weeks after rescue. To be honest, I always thought I was emotionally distant like nothing could ever get to me. But the moment this tiny creature reached out and held onto my hand with his little paws, everything changed.

For two weeks, I did everything I could to give him warmth, shelter, and love. I stayed up watching over him, feeding him gentle liquid food, and keeping him safe. He hated being trapped, and whenever I closed his box completely, he would cry. I left a tiny opening so he could feel comfortable and hear me nearby, but while I wasn't looking, he managed to crawl out on his own and accidentally fell from the desk.

I rushed him to a veterinary doctor, but they gently explained that the fall caused severe internal head bleeding and in a creature so tiny and fragile, there was nothing that could be done to save him.

The guilt broke my heart, but he didn't spend his last moments alone or in the cold. He passed away wrapped in soft warmth, completely cared for and deeply loved. He taught me what it truly means to protect, love, and grieve for a helpless life. I gave him a safe place to rest, and in return, he softened my heart forever. Rest in peace, little one.
