Scallops

When my daughter moved into a new house, we found shells 2-3 feet deep between the air conditioner and the house - I guess that’s where the former owners apparently put their finds.

I have spent a good chunk of the past two years, cleaning the black dirt, roots, bugs, everything else off of these shells. I usually remove the dart with a variety of brushes, then put them in a solution of bleach and water and let them sit for a few days. Just wanted to share how amazing cleaning and the mineral oil make the shells look (I did take some of the broken ones and put them in another pile so it may look a little different in the after picture, but these are the same shells.

Treatment for calcium in toilet bowl

This may be a long explanation, sorry for the Novella.

A year ago our toilet that is in a house that was built in 1926 and uses well water. We started having difficulty flushing the toilet. A plumber came out and put some kind of solvent or enzyme in the toilet bowl that got rid of the black staining (for lack of a better word). He said it was something that dissolved all of the calcium which allowed the toilet to flush better. I really would like to know what that is so that I can get some.

Our toilet bowl recently started getting the black staining back and isn’t flushing as well. I used bleach tablets in the tank for a time, however, worried about the septic system so I stopped. That seemed to keep the black staining away. The plumber specifically said this is not mold or mildew.

We do use Rust Out once a month, which helps, but apparently the plumber had something much stronger. Any help is very much appreciated.
