We built this because we wanted an equivalent of Know Your Meme and Urban Dictionary for Sri Lanka. It's a community platform where anyone can contribute Sinhala expressions with their definitions and usage examples and also contribute Sri Lankan memes with their origins, use cases, sources, etc.
This is mostly for non native Sinhala speakers and even Sri Lankans who are out of the loop (or not chronically online lol) who needs to find out more about Sri Lankan slang or memes.
Right now, we have a few submissions published from our Admin team and some sourced from Know Your Meme and other sites. These are mainly for reference on how a submission is expected to be. We'll keep polishing them as we go. All submissions will be reviewed and edited if necessary before publishing.
We know similar platforms exist, especially Lankan Urban Dictionary (not sure if it's even active anymore). But we wanted one place for both memes and expressions, something that doubles as an internet archive for the future.
Our team of three started this as a fun little side project. There was a fair bit of AI tools used in the dev process but with careful supervision. We hope you all can give some feedback on how we can improve. And if you know a word or meme that belongs here, go ahead and submit them here.
