When I was a student, I worked in pet shops to earn beer money.

In one store, my manager quit university because he needed a fulltime job - his girlfriend was pregnant, so he was doing the right thing by making some money. They would often argue on the phone and it was really awkward in the shop.
Then one day I overheard him call Greenpeace and volunteer to "go on missions".
It was such a naive and dumb thing to do it has stuck with me for almost 40 years as an example of complete idiocy.
I have no idea what happened to the man and his girlfriend.
