XD card corrupted

My daughter's old digicam uses an Olympus XD card. We just tried to get her holiday photos off and got a card corrupted notification. She's really upset so I'm hoping there's some kind of open source or free data recovery software out there that we could use.

Can anyone help with recommendations please? I'm running the latest version of Windows.

maybe I'm reading into it too much, but...

Doesn't anyone else think it's a little odd, a little convenient, that Inde Navarrette had crazy success with an indie movie that would normally go totally unnoticed just a few weeks before she's cast in a big Hollywood, Disney, Marvel movie? Like, okay, i get that they could have seen her and moved fast to cast her, but does that really seem like something they would do? Isn't it odd that Obsession did so well? Aren't we a little suspicious that Inde Navarrette was suddenly one of the most famous actors in the mainstream just a few weeks before Marvel announced she's going to be Rogue. I'm not saying anything for sure, but it seems reasonable that they cast her, then did what they could to make sure she was successful before their announcement.

I'm not saying I'm totally on board with this idea myself, but it is a little strange. What do others think?

Considering making my own pickups, but have questions

So I understand that the number of coils will change the sound like more coil make a hotter, but also darker pickup. But I'm curious about coil depth. What will a shallow wound coil be compared to a deep wound coil? how does that change the sound? Like Jazzmaster pickups are shallow, but wide, right? and they have a very particular sound. then there's a tele bridge pickup that is deeper than usual single coil and that has its own sound. So how does depth effect tone?

EDIT: Just doing it for the fun of the process. Going to take the danelectro, teisco approach and just wrap with directly around a bar magnet and see what comes out of it. But trying to get an idea of whether or not to make it wide like a jazzmaster or narrow like a lipstick pup.
