macrame/maedeup phone strap

I’ve been teaching myself traditional Korean decorative knotting (maedeup) over the past few months with the intention of eventually creating jewelry and accessories and last night I made my first short phone strap using 550 paracord and my favorite knot, the amnabi, or female butterfly knot! 🦋 I used macrame knots for the other knots in the strap and I’m so pleased how it turned out- I’m really excited to experiment with using multiple colors, more hardware, even longer lengths so it can be a crossbody strap, and other decorative knots.

some of my recent work

I’ve been working on teaching myself traditional Korean decorative knotting (maedeup) over the past few months! I’ve learned quite a few of the 38 traditional knots and paracord is one of my favorite materials to work with! It’s so much fun to make wall hangings and keychains- I’m also planning to make some lanyards and camera straps as well as other accessories, including norigae, the traditional hanging waist accessory that is most commonly associated with the craft of maedeup. So far, the butterfly knot is my favorite!
