In 1990 I made my one visit so far to Newfoundland with my family. We took the ferry from Sydney to Port-Aux-Basques, stayed for a few days in Gros Morne, and returned on the same ferry.

When we were waiting for the return ferry, we were required to empty out the car, and staff from the ferry dock vacuumed out the entire vehicle. Apparently there were worries about the spread of an invasive species coming from Newfoundland to the mainland.

I was thinking back to that this evening, and wondering what the species was that they were worried about. I couldn’t find info about it on Google. Does anyone remember what it would have been at that time?
