What the haircut scene really meant..

My theory about the haircut scene:

Throughout the movie, I think it’s been illustrated that Real Nikki still has moments where she can break through and communicate that she isn’t comfortable with what’s happening. We see this with the photos where she writes “not me”, as well as the sudden switches in personality, like during the scene where she and Bear are kissing in bed. These moments suggest that the real Nikki is still conscious underneath Wish Nikki.

Now, if we remember the backwards walking scene, a common interpretation is that the Real Nikki regains control of her body and potentially came close to attack Bear because of all the trauma she has experienced. At the same time, Wish Nikki fights back and tries to protect Bear. The backwards movement could represent that physical struggle for control.

Now here’s my theory: what if something similar happened offscreen during the haircut scene?

My theory is that Real Nikki regained consciousness while Bear was sleeping and attempted to hurt him, possibly using the scissors or whatever was available to her. But before she could actually do anything, Wish Nikki regained control.

Instead of attacking Bear, Wish Nikki simply cut his hair.

This would explain why the haircut feels so strange and seemingly random. Maybe Wish Nikki wasn't just randomly deciding to cut his hair she was covering up what Real Nikki had attempted to do, while also turning the situation into another display of her unnatural obsession with Bear.

Obviously, the movie never confirms this, so it's just a theory. But considering we've already seen Real Nikki trying to regain control and Wish Nikki physically overpowering her, I think it's an interesting possibility.

What do you guys think?
