Are youth national travel teams worth it?
I have a son who is a 2032 and plays defense/lsm. Our league wide team has a tryout coming up for its national travel team. Not sure if he would make it he is probably right on the boarder line of making a team like that. Personally I don’t care if he does it or not. I would never push him into it, but he has mentioned he wants to try out.
I just wonder if he is too young for that. He still plays other sports and I worry about lacrosse burnout before high school even starts. Also is that investment worth it with all the travel.
***Update****
Thanks for all the replies! I think we are going to skip the tryout. Focus on multiple sports still and maybe try and get him in a better regional club. Like I mentioned in a reply we are not in a lacrosse hotbed so I this is all new. My main concern is if he was missing out on better coaching or better reps. But it sounds like as at this age as long as they are getting reps against good competition it will help. And of course lots of wall ball haha. I’ll leave the post up for a while because it is a great discussion.
