Please critique my short itinerary!
Hi all! I'll have some spare time on a UK trip next month for a quick Lake District visit. Never been there before, could someone more experienced please roast my plan? My constraints are:
- No car.
- 2 nights.
- Start and end at Windermere train station.
- Staying in Ambleside, but it's cancellable.
- Not keen on hardcore hiking, I just want to walk around and take photos.
Itinerary:
**1st day**: 2-3pm arrive in Windermere. Bus to Ambleside, check-in. Rest of the day: bus trip to Grasmere (just the village) and the White Moss Common - Steps End hike. Take the bus back near Steps End.
**2nd day**: Day trip to Keswick. Full day boat ticket, hop on/off at random jettys around Derwentwater. Walk around town, eat at some point (maybe at a stop around the lake?), bus back to Ambleside.
**3rd day**: Grasmere/Ryland Water in the morning, if not done on first day. Ferry to Bowness, walk around, maybe climb to Orrest Head. Train later in the day, I just need to make it to Manchester eventually. Is leaving luggage at the Ambleside hotel and doing a quick bus round trip to collect it later a terrible idea?
Questions:
- Is this too optimistic? Or why not, too conservative?
- Is this passable for casual clothing? Or will I need to get hiking shoes and ditch the jeans?
- Any other recommendation? What would you do differently?
