How does missing classes work or like being away for certain things and missing lectures (lets say you are gone for a week at most 2 weeks)

Im going into first year this year, but at the start of the semester (some time in early/mid September), I am invited to an immediate family member’s wedding, and I really want to go (very special person to me).

How does missing classes/labs/anything work here? Do I just take the 0 if I miss assessments, and catch up with labs? Do I talk with the prof?

Im asking now because I need to make a decision if I am going to go or not.

Thanks

I am so ashamed of myself… is it realistic to get in with these waitlists

Yo I dont wanna be that kind of guy that always asks “am i cooked” or something like that. I am waiting for next week to enroll in 1 class, and waitlisted in 2 classes (all second semester)

Would rank 1 in MAT149 and rank 50 in ECO102 be realistic in getting in via waitlist? What are the drop % rates usually for UofT classes?

I should probably have faster mouse skills to enroll in MAT149 in time smh

Is the ArriveReady program mandatory/useful? I havent looked into it much to be honest and I dont know if I can finish it, but I dont want to miss out

Title pretty much explains my worries.

If it isnt mandatory, or if the certificate isnt useful, I will just look at things I don't know or hope to understand instead of doing everything.

Im going to be away a ton this summer so even if I wanted to finish it I would have to do it all before August.

Incoming First Year Math Phys student; A couple of questions

I plan on doing a physics specialist. I was wondering for first year, what are some good/useful electives to take for potential internships, self benefit, career benefits, or for accessing upper level courses? Im not necessarily worried about filling the BR requirements for first year unless necessary.

For first year, im definitely doing MAT148/149, PHY151/152, and MAT223/224 (i think it was).

I am considering doing ECO101/102, and even PHL245 (Interested and it also fills a BR requirement I think, or maybe a program pre-req?).

I saw some internships for physics encourage programming experience. Unsure if its good to take CSC108/148 for it, but I do know how to program to a highschool level (self taught). Would it be good to take these classes (i heard they were simple too).

Just want some open critical advice please dont be afraid to be “rude” I want advice nothing sugarcoated. If there are other electives to take, or maybe take upper year phys/math courses id be glad to assess that too.

Thanks

I would like some advice on my course choices; Hope to double major in Math and Physics

So I want to pursue a double major in math and physics. I had a teacher recommend me take CSC108 and 148 as python programming was a useful tool. I was also interested in economics as it helped fill my first year. My second year however looks like peak hell. I want to pursue a double major as I feel like I have the academic capabilities to do so, but this is also UofT(ears).

I wanted some advice on specific courses to take, or avoid, provided I can still obtain my goal. I will also be checking the timetable builder to make sure the courses fit.

Not sure how relevant this is but I am also in Trinity College I think there may be extra courses/stuff that I take with them I am not too sure yet. I'm doing all my research this weekend.

Not sure if this is relevant but I had 97 in SPH4U and MHF4U and 98 in MCV4U

I am willing to change stuff around if you guys think is necessary. I want to obviously optimize myself but you all know better than me whether my "plan" is a good idea.

The issues come from pre-requisites or the fact that MAT137 is changing to MAT148-149, but the other courses don't recognize it yet, so I had MAT137 included but hidden (same for MAT235Y1).

Determining the right charge for ion in galvanic cell?

Hi I have a question.

For context, lets say you have a magnesium strip and a platinum strip and you connect it like a galvanic cell.

When writing the line notation, Mg would obviously be Mg2+ as the retrospective ion.

What about for Platinum, or for any metal with multiple charges (Fe, Cu, Pb, etc)? I wrote Pt2+ as its ion for my test, as I also had PtSO4 as the electrolyte. I got it wrong and was told that it should be Pt4+ as it is more common or some other reason I do not know.

Is Trinity really that good at all, or am I better off somewhere else?

Going here next year. I visited Trinity, Woodsworth, New College, and Vic. I loved both Trinity and Woodsworth. Cost wasn’t a huge factor, but it was a small factor.

I had to choose Trinity as a first choice on OUAC to get a chance… maybe I would prefer Trinity over the others. I genuinely loved Trinity and Woodsworth was pretty nice too. I got accepted to Trinity.

I just wanted to ask from students if Trinity is really worth it in the end. It is pretty expensive and I can definitely afford the first 2 years, but I guess since im a chud i think im not gonna get any research opportunities during the summer.

What co op/research opportunities can undergraduates in Mathematical and Physical Sciences get?

Accepted to Math Phys at UofT and Im hella excited; it was my 4th choice but thats life.

I did research on this program since it was the most realistic of my top 4 choices to get into; I do plan on double majoring math and physics. I was wondering since there isn’t necessarily a co-op program, how could I get research opportunities/co-ops/internships for the summer months with no classes? I was told research opportunities are more reserved for upper year students. I also if possible want to use the pay I get from these opportunities to pay for uni (if you do get paid for said opportunities lol), while also just building up a portfolio;

I do plan to look into a career in finance/quant, research/academia, nuclear work, or pursuing a masters in engineering abroad if my passion reignites; if thats relevant at all.

I thank you all for taking the time to educate a dumbass making a post on a Sunday night before a vectors test. Have a good night.

McGill sending Transcripts

I know McGill is a Quebec university, but please bear with me.

I got into a program at McGill. It says I need to tell my school to send a transcript and proof of graduation (obviously conditionals). It also says that it will take my info from OUAC

Should I ask my school to still send them when the time comes (probably June), and likewise, do they not have to send it if McGill is taking them from OUAC?

I plan to draft an email to them tomorrow but an answer here would be appreciated

Side question: what are the minimum marks to keep offers for McGill Engineering? Ill also email this question later. I can’t find it on my portal

Thank you

I hope you all hear back from McGill soon if you haven’t yet!
