Join us on the Camino in Brandenburg this Saturday! 🚶🚶🏽‍♀️

Join us for a one-day pilgrimage along the Brandenburg Camino de Santiago. We start in Jacobsdorf, home of the St. James Society Berlin, and walk via Briesen and Berkenbrück to the cathedral town of Fürstenwalde/Spree.

The route first passes through open fields, later through forests, past small ponds and moorlands. A swim break at the river Spree is planned. If you'd prefer not to walk the longer distance, you can end the walk after 16 km in Berkenbrück and take the return journey from there.

This pilgrimage has an international character. It will be led in both German and English.

At a glance

  • Date: Saturday, 1 August 2026
  • Route: Jacobsdorf → Berkenbrück → Fürstenwalde/Spree (section of the Brandenburg Camino de Santiago)
  • Distance: 16 km (to Berkenbrück) or 25 km (to Fürstenwalde)

Getting there and back

  • Start: 9 AM at Jacobsdorf station (arrival via rail replacement service: bus RE1A towards Frankfurt/Oder from Erkner ZOB at 7:40 AM, or bus RE1A towards Erkner at 8:40 AM)
  • End: afternoon, at Berkenbrück or Fürstenwalde station (return on bus RE1 towards Erkner/Berlin or Frankfurt every 20–40 minutes)

Route & highlights along the way

  • Mostly forest tracks and field paths
  • Village churches along the route
  • Swim spot on the Spree
  • Old town and St. Mary's Cathedral in Fürstenwalde
  • Komoot tour: https://www.komoot.com/tour/2757613420

Why this pilgrimage?
This walk brings together nature, community, and pilgrim tradition. Along the way, there'll be time for conversation and personal reflection. One stretch will be walked in intentional silence (around 30–60 minutes). It's a good, accessible way to get to know the Camino and the practice of pilgrimage.

The pilgrimage takes place under the auspices of the St. James Society Berlin.

Practical notes

  • Gear: comfortable shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sun protection, swimwear, backpack
  • Food: bring enough water, snacks, and a packed lunch for the full day
  • Tickets: please arrange your own travel there and back

Join our pilgrim hike on Saturday, July 11, to the hills of Brandenburg ⛰️

I'd like to warmly invite you to our next pilgrim hike through the hilly forests of the Oderland region. This route offers more elevation than most of our hikes – and rewards you with mountain panoramas and deep forest serenity as we practice a simple but demanding focus: being here rather than elsewhere.

📅 Date & Time

  • Date: Saturday, July 11, 2026
  • Start: 9:44 AM at Bad Freienwalde Train Station (Travel via RE3 from Berlin, transfer to RB60 in Eberswalde)
  • End: 4:25 PM at Falkenberg (Mark) Train Station (Return via RB60 through Eberswalde, then RE3 to Berlin)

🗺️ Route Highlights

  • Komoot tour: https://www.komoot.com/tour/2153746400
  • Trails Oderlandweg & Turmwanderweg
  • old town of Bad Freienwalde and its hilltop castle
  • a real “mountain stage” for Brandenburg: around 300 m in elevation & summit “Märkischer Watzmann” (106 m)
  • panoramic views over the surrounding countryside (Oderbruch)
  • dense forests and natural landscapes far from the noise of the city

🤔 Why this pilgrimage?

Much of our attention is often elsewhere – in plans, worries, memories, or expectations. This pilgrimage invites a return to what is immediately given: the body, the breath, the step, and the path ahead.

This pilgrimage is an opportunity to slow down, reconnect with nature, and reflect on life’s important questions. We’ll walk at a relaxed pace, share thoughts, and take time for moments of silence – about 30 minutes to an hour – to listen to nature and our inner voices.

🔔 What to know & bring

  • Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy walking or hiking shoes.
  • Bring enough food and water for the whole day.
  • If you’d like to swim, bring swimwear and a towel.

Harz Mountain, 2-Day-Hike, from Ilsenburg to Rübeland via BROCKEN summit, Germany

Two days (June 6-7), forty kilometres, more than a thousand metres of climbing, up the Brocken, the highest peak in Northern Germany, and down again.

Ascent via Ilse Valley, descent via Bode Valley. Overnight in Schierke.

I liked the physical challenge. Anyone who sits at a desk a lot and otherwise only walks in flat country gets to know their body again here. The route is neither difficult nor does it require special skill but it does ask something of you.

And the Harz is more than a mountain range. A national park with rushing streams, dense forests, weathered crags, and at the same time a landscape under pressure: bark beetle, drought, storm damage, tourism.

It is this friction that makes a place interesting to me.

On top of that, a mythical region full of witches and devils and Walpurgis Night, on paths that Heine and Goethe walked before us.
