Refund from EU kitchenaid

Hi everyone, I'm helping a coworker with an issue regarding a product she purchased and I'm wondering what the next steps are. She purchased a KitchenAid mixer from their .IE website and it began emitting sparks. She sent it for repairs, and returned with the same issue. She sent it again and when it returned this time it stopped functioning completely.

I advised her to email and ask for a refund as she does not even want a replacement anymore after their failed repairs. As far as I understand according to eu consumer law she is entitled to one if the repairs are not able to be completed in a timely manner and without significant disruption to her ( she had to take unpaid time off work to deal with the courier for collection and delivery 4 times in total)

Customer service rang and offered another repair which she refused, and then stated she couldn't get a refund. She emailed to get that in writing and they responded yet again claiming she is only entitled to another repair, and that 14 days has passed so a refund is not available. This seems to contravene EU consumer rights.

Would small claims court in Ireland be the next appropriate step in order to secure her refund?
