Lucerne Ice Cream Boxes

Anybody remember those Lucerne ice cream tubs that were around until like ~5 years ago? They seem to have disappeared from ice cream aisles, anyone know why? A lot of the brands you can get now are weirdly foamy and way too sweet.

Lucerne used to be pretty good quality ice cream and have some flavours you can’t get anywhere else (Tin Lizzie Cheesecake, Nuttin Better, quality Maple Walnut). Are they gone forever?

Experiences With Upper Year Transfer

Wondering if anyone is open to sharing their experience applying for or completing an upper year transfer from one school to another.

I was accepted to a dream school this year on the other side of the country, and due to financial limitations and some family health issues at the moment I will be staying in my home province instead. The opportunities for what I want to do are indeed better at this other school, but in the end it was not feasible for me to make the move this year. I am hoping if everything goes well health-wise I will apply to transfer next year. However, I have a few questions:

- Does a prior acceptance to the school provide any advantage in transferring, or rather does it look unreliable as an applicant to have been accepted once already and to have declined the offer?

- Is transferring a red flag when applying for clerkships? Is there any disadvantage in having to submit two separate transcripts (1st year school and 2nd/3rd year school) for clerkship or job applications?

- Is it particularly difficult (beyond a reasonable level) to get integrated in the second year in a class that already is collegial with one another and familiar with the environment? In the same vein, does transferring in second year create barriers to getting involved in clubs/law journals/research/moots as you will just be coming in with less experience, less name recognition, and less time to get involved?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can shed some light on these based on their own experience.

Last chance to sign Water Not Coal petition is this week!

The Water Not Coal petition is collecting signatures up until June 7. This affects all of us in Edmonton, and everyone who gets their water from the headwaters in the Eastern Slopes.

We knew in the 70s that coal mining was bad for workers and bad for the environment. There was a moratorium set back then because the science is clear. No coal is clean coal, despite what some profiteering companies would say. Working in a mine is likewise no good for human health and will largely be automated (so where are the jobs at? Ah, they're at the managerial level... not creating jobs for the everyday tradesman in Alberta). If you are like me and believe foreign coal mining companies should have NO influence over the cleanliness of our drinking water and do not have the best interests of Albertans in mind, FIND A SIGNING LOCATION HERE BEFORE JUNE 7: https://sign.waternotcoal.ca/

We are past using coal as a society, and it is an insane proposition to bring back coal in 2026. We all need clean water, fair jobs, and we love our Rocky Mountains. Make your voice heard!

Where do students live?

I‘m excited to be moving to Calgary in the fall, and starting to look for places to live while I attend UCalgary! Hoping to crowdsource some experiential opinions on ideal neighbourhoods for students to supplement the curated lists of Calgary’s Best Neighbourhoods.

Where are good places for students to live?

I’m looking for somewhere quiet-ish, in proximity to the university (within 5-6km), close to a bike lane if they exist, and ideally a park/somewhere green. I like nightlife but more in a brewery way than a nightclub way. Are there neighbourhoods like this that come to mind?
