Festival Recommendation: Karlovy Vary

From July 3 till 11, the next edition of my favorite film festival, the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) will take place. Because it takes place in summer, the weather is usually nice and you have a really cool festival vibe. Karlovy Vary is also a ridiculously beautiful city, the beer is tasty and the tickets are very cheap. You can also bring your tent and sleep in the tent village for a few Euros per night, so it's basically the perfect festival for students who don't have much money (the audience seems actually way younger in comparison to other festivals, I've attended).

There's a lake next to the camping area where you can swim in the morning, before renting an electric bicycle (free for festival pass holders) and cycle to the cinemas. The tent village also has an own ticket booth where you line up for tickets in the morning and have interesting conversations with other festival guests :)

The programme is usually pretty good as well. A combination of premieres (mostly from Central and Eastern Europe) and films that already premiered at Berlin and Cannes. My highlights of the films, I've seen at KVIFF, were Parasite, About Dry Grasses, La Chimera, Slow, Fire of Love, Decision to Leave, In Fabric and Killing (by Shinya Tsukamoto).
