Hear me out: Captain Bateson from “Cause and Effect” falls in love with Lanel from “First Contact”
Season 4 meet Season 5. Lanel’s planet joins the Federation after launching their first Warp 1 ship. Captain Morgan Bateson meets Lanel at a bar in Boston, Sector 001 (Saavik is a regular). The two fall in love and find they both love opera and fine dining.
They get married, have a kid. The love fizzles out. Bateson moves back to his home in the twenty-third century and reconnects with Papa Bateson who was shot in the leg with a Carassian phaser, his scraggly targ, Eddie, and his erudite brother. He decides to become a subspace radio host.
I know, it’s flirting with fantasy. Maybe it’s a stupid idea.
