I have a secondhand Louis Vuitton Deauville bag I wanted to sell. I’ve been advertising it on places like Vinted, Poshmark, Ebay, and now Facebook for a few weeks but I haven’t been getting much visibility or bites. Vinted was good at first but customer service is so slow and I really need the money. What sites are working for everyone else right now, and what kind of format do you use to advertise your bags?

My mom and I are in Virginia and are struggling financially after a failed investment situation. About two years ago, my mom invested money through a friend, who connected her with an investor. The investment fell apart after the investor's company declared bankruptcy. Since then, the friend has repeatedly promised to repay my mom after her father sold land, but every time we're supposed to receive the money, there's another excuse (issues with the check, delays with the wire, family emergencies, etc.). We have years of text messages documenting these promises.
At this point, we're concerned the friend is intentionally delaying or has no intention of paying. We believe this would likely be a civil matter, but we can't afford to hire an attorney.
One concern is that this friend has connections with good judges and attorneys, which makes us nervous about pursuing legal action, even if those connections ultimately don't affect the outcome.
What are our options for getting legal help if we have very little money? Are there legal aid organizations, contingency-fee attorneys, or other resources we should be looking into? Is this the type of case that attorneys would ever take on contingency if we have documentation of the promises to repay? We have other legal matters we wanted to pursue anyway, but we can’t do that without getting our money from her.
