My MIL’s favorite tree

Had to share this behemoth of an Oak tree my MIL fell in love with when they toured their house 40 years ago and one of the reasons they bought it. From what the local arborist group believes its one of the 10 oldest trees in their town and people likely used it for shade during the revolutionary war.

We set a trap for multiple possum in our basement and caught one earlier tonight. Within an hour we brought it outside to release but it had gotten into this position before I could get to it. Its gums look irritated where it’s touching the cage but hopefully not injured.

Is it stuck or is this something it can get itself out of?

Also there is at least one juvenile possum still remaining, I am unsure of its overall size. From what I could see of it the mouth is roughly 1.5” long from front of mouth to side of mouth. Will we be able to trap it as well or should we be worried about a den?
