my nice klondike is coming to catalog at some point

hello! quick post to let you know that my nice klondike solitaire game i've been working on will be coming to the catalog at some point in the future! i just got the acceptance e-mail today, so i don't have a concrete release date yet. but at an educated guess; i'd hazard to say maybe late october to early november? grain of salt, though.

it's all 100% human-done (art, sounds, code; the lot), it's got a HEAP of gameplay and graphics customization options (and even some amazing custom decks from guest playdate artists — thank you toadleigh for making the awesome reel-istic fishing-inspired deck in this gif!), and it's just generally good ol' solitaire fun that's perfectly suited for the playdate.

i hope you like it! if you wanna keep tabs, you can visit https://rae.wtf for updates and more cool stuff. have a nice day! xo

Augustravaganza! Games by rae on sale all week!

hello! my nice playdate games are on sale as part of augustravaganza!

you can find all my games in catalog here: https://play.date/games/studios/wtf.rae — but if you'll allow me some plug time to talk about a couple highlights...

rowbot rally took home outstanding visual achievement and the CRANKY award in this year's community awards. it's typically $15, but right now you can get it for $11! it's experimental and made with love

HEXA's a nice match-six puzzler that you'll have trouble putting down once you pick it up...even if your score isn't all that great to start. usually $8, you can get it for just a fiver right now!

labsylle's a wordsy, swappy puzzle game that focuses more on chill par-based scoring than timing...though there's also a 60-second mode if you want the thrill. usually $7, you can get it for $6 right now

cloudburst! traffic jam! mission lunatrix! bona fido! first in... line? all great games (and an app!), each typically $5, available right now for the low low price of $3!

across the gamut, there's surely something you'll be interested in. all made with absolutely zero AI. i'm in it for the love of the game! and if you love games too, then i think you'll get along just fine with mine. thanks for your time! have a nice day

(by the way, i'm working on new stuff, too! the solitaire game i shared in the past has been bowled for a catalog spot (fingers crossed!!), and we're basically right on the eve of my mysterious "project pesto" being revealed to the world. if you wanna stay up-to-date on the latest, you can visit my website, at https://rae.wtf !)

Augustravaganza 2026 — Big sale! Great deals! All week!

hello, happy august! august is pretty cool. we're right in the dog days of summer, the days are bright and sunny, ...why not take your playdate out to enjoy some great games?

i'm happy to announce that the 2026 installment of our augustravaganza community sale is live NOW! it's a big people-powered event where a bunch of nice people put their games on sale in catalog for the first week of august. we did it in 2024 and 2025, and they've been tremendously fun to organize, so let's run it back!

in 2024, we had a little over 30 games available as part of the event. in 2025, over 60 participating games came through! now, i'll admit i completed this nice key art a little early...but i'm happy to announce that we actually have over 80 games participating in this year's sale! if you wanna see everybody who registered their games, check out this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FKVh8_5uF20S5ezeoNpsdPvMElOKx44PlquJe8yiFUM/edit?usp=sharing

or, if you want some particular highlights...
• playdate all-timers gun trails and P-racing are just $1 each!
• the vast catalogs of powerdive games and scenic route software are all on sale!
• two playdate GOTYs, reel-istic fishing and echo: the oracle's scroll, are each half off!
• agents of groove and under the tree are nearly half off!
• the mind-blowing outside parties available for just $9!
• much, much, much more!

if you wanna see everything there is to buy — and pick up some of it for yourself — you can head straight to the "on sale" section in catalog, on your playdate! (press B from the main menu, and scroll down). if you wanna browse on web, you can visit https://play.date/games/tags/on-sale/

i think it's really fun to be able to organize these, so thank you to everybody who volunteered their games! and thank you folk for your support. feel free to use the comment section to let everyone know what you picked up, or what you already have that you think others should take a look at!

Beyond the Crank on Steam

hi! i'll be the one to write about this cool new steam bundle that i and a bunch of other peeps were working on, which launched today. it's focused on games that made the big jump from their initial playdate releases to PCs!

here's what you can get in it right now:
• blippo+
• ratcheteer DX
• office chair curling
• suborbital salvage
• HEXA (hey i made this one!)

by buying the bundle, you can get these games at a 10% discount from their typical prices. and it works under the "complete the set" model; so if you already own something in the bundle, you can buy the rest of it at a prorated price.

huge thanks to alex @ games right meow for organizing it all, panic for signing on, neven for creating the bundle art, and the folks who signed on their games. it was super fun seeing it all come together!

PD OS 3.1.0 adds Japanese support!

on top of some other nice things like microphone permissions in newly-compiled games, heaps of additions and bugfixes for you developers out there, and a buncha other cool stuff.

there's a new Language option in Settings that lets you switch between English and Japanese — this also ties into the SDK's built-in localization options for rendering text strings, so games can support both languages.

here are a few games in catalog that already support JP*: https://play.date/games/search/?q=japanese

if you wanna figure out how to implement localization in your own game: https://sdk.play.date/3.1.0/Inside%20Playdate.html#localization

WIP: klondike solitaire

"gee, rae, you've been showing us a lot of prototypes and not a lot of finished games!" i KNOW i KNOW, just bear with me

uum hey! i wanted to play klondike solitaire on my playdate, so i decided to make a klondike client (see image 1). i know i'm not breaking any new ground here — there are klondike games in catalog, even — but i thought it would be fun to throw my hat into the ring! and i've honestly been getting a lot of mileage out of it as a player from the exact moment it was coded enough to be playable LOL

it's work in progress right now, but real polished so far. i've been working on adding a whole bunch of settings and rule tweaks as well, to really make it yours. with luck, i'll even have stuff like solvable decks, auto-completion, full undo history, and cold-suspend/resume. there are also a few fun features that take advantage of playdate specifically; like crank-to-complete with granular settings (see image 2!), and Quick-Pick (for grabbing a whole stack real fast)

there's also a system for changing the background, card designs, and cursors (see image 3) — i plan to make a bunch myself, but i've also been gathering a couple guest decks from volunteer playdate developers. good times!

this is my first time making a game that literally fully already exists, so it's quite out of my wheelhouse, but it's been quite the fun code challenge! as with all my stuff, it's completely human-made, and i plan to make it completely open-source. i hope to submit to catalog by the 2nd...because on the 2nd, the new rhythm heaven game comes out, and i know that's gonna make me unproductive for at least a month solid XP

thanks for listening! i only plan to include klondike (for now?!), but let me know if there's anything fun you'd like to see out of it!

Rae franchise Catalog sale! Deep discounts! All-star titles! (Until 06.30.2026)

https://preview.redd.it/exookvrrnp7h1.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=095d522db19481048525a83c03ff25800d5e6e14

hello! i just wanted to pop in quickly to let you know that, starting today, i'm running a summer sale on all my games currently available in playdate catalog! there's a lot of cool stuff, but here are some highlights if you're looking for ideas:

• rowbot rally, typically $15, is currently on sale at its lowest price yet for just a tenner! it's an experimental story-based game filled with love and evil robot-smashing, and brought home two trophies in the last playdate community awards.

• HEXA, normally $8, is currently available for $5! if you love games like tetris, lumines, or panel de pon; HEXA's gonna fit right at home in your library. it's a hexagonal match-six puzzle game that's easy to learn, but tough to master.

• cloudburst is currently $3, down from $5! one of the first network-enabled apps in the playdate catalog; it's a great desk-companion app that gives you a suite of screensavers, as well as your local weather info! it's designed to be as lo-power as possible, but you can set it to turn off at a specific battery percentage as a safety net

on top of those, there are five other titles i have in catalog! each nice arcade-y titles with their own twists. if you like words, brain teasers, and more words; try labsylle! if you like stage-plays, memorization, and pass-'n'-play multiplayer; try first in line! you can take a look at my entire games library on playdate here: https://play.date/games/search/?q=raewtf discounts on all of these titles are running until june 30th, at 10am pacific time.

all of my games are made with love, and of course absolutely no AI. making games has been my passion since i was a kid, and i remain continually floored that i've got the opportunity to get crazy and experimental with what i can make on playdate. marketing's always the hardest part, though, so... tell your friends! ;D and thanks for your time. have a nice day!

2025 awards!!

hello!! just wanted to quickly cash in some brag tokens to show off what just arrived in the mail today (shiny!!), ...and also take a moment to say, thank you all for playing and liking the games i've put out.

it's still so surreal to me that not only can i actually make and release video games like i've wanted to do since i was a kid (thank you playdate for making that so overwhelmingly easy), and not only are people able to play and appreciate the stuff i do (thank you, all of you, for playing!); but i also have tangible metal proof of that fact to keep me going (thank you paul straw, daniel simon, BT, toad, literally everybody who puts on the awards show this and every year).

i've always got more stuff that i'm working on, and seeing just how much of an impact my games can have really motivates me to wanna keep at it. here's to another year of great playdate games! thanks for your time.
