IWTL How to like food I hate

I don’t like cheese or bread and it affects my social life. This means that I don’t eat sandwiches, burgers, or the main reason for this post, pizza. Sometimes I like thin crust pizza if it’s cooked in a specific way but it’s really inconsistent and when it’s wrong, I barely tolerate it.

I live in Canada so the stereotypical safe social foods are pizza, Mac n cheese, casseroles, and charcuterie boards with bread and buns. I hate all of these to varying degrees so I feel like a freak of nature a lot of time. When I’m invited over somewhere, I usually eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, and then I fight with my gag reflex to eat whatever the main course is (usually some variation of the aforementioned foods). Apparently I once liked cheese and pizza when I was really little, but sometime when I was a toddler I developed my hatred for the stuff.

I like Asian food, and I feel like I’m open minded when it comes to trying new things. It’s really just the combination of really disliking these staples, and wanting to go out with people who like this stuff that makes it such a problem.

I’m really sick of feeling stressed about food every time I get together with someone. I don’t want to emotionally prepare to eat something I hate so that I can be polite or enable a simple and straightforward visit. I imagine if I can learn how to like cheese and bread, not only will I be able to get rid of all this stress and discomfort, but I’ll also have better social interactions. I don’t even know if it’s possible to learn how to like a food, but if anyone has any ideas I’d love to hear them.

So, TLDR: I hate cheese and bread (but especially cheese) but they’re social gathering staples so I’m always dealing with food related stress because I’m either avoiding eating these foods, or I have to force myself to eat them. IWTL how to enjoy eating food I hate.
