How to be a social worker with a disability

Hello everyone! I posting today as I'm feeling a lot of difficult emotions. I'm almost 1 year into my social work career in a specialist disabilities service. The team is really small and I'm on my third manager since starting. I had worked in social care for 9 years before being a NQSW.

I also have disabilities. I have fibromyalgia (w/ IBS), migraines, IIH, and mental health. I am not a well person but I work really hard. Sometimes I lack confidence, but I'm good at my work. I'm struggling to have a work-life balance that is sustainable. Its hard to know what you need until something doesn't work. I hoped compressed hours would help, but the lack of flexibility in my days is causing me grief. All my health conditions flared since starting the role. I'm asking for reduced hours.

I don't know other people who have disabilities who are social workers. I feel like lots of social workers have difficulties, maybe they have undiagnosed conditions, but I havent found anyone that relates to my situation with chronic long-term conditions. I am open about it, although I try not to overshare. Today has been tough and I've had days like this - feels like burnout, but worried that it makes me a bad social worker or not fit for the job.

I wonder if anyone had personal success stories in their social work journey that they could share. Or just stories. It would be nice to relate to someone about this as it is quite isolating.

Hope everyone is well today ❤️‍🩹

Previous owners removed wall, currently being held up by shelving brackets??

So, I moved in around November last year and joined the mortgage with my partner, who had owned that property before me. He got money off the house so that he could have this repaired.

Everytime I see it I get anxiety. Just how dangerous is this? We need to get something built to stabilise - I dont want the wall if possible, happy with an archway or a beam or something would be okay. In the UK, every wall in this flat are solid concrete, and the wall that was removed was unarguably structural. Its maybe 2m across. Quite high ceiling. Building is maybe 60-70 years old. We are on the ground floor, building has 4 floors including ground.

Any advice on what I'm asking for from a builder is helpful!! Can give more info if you need, never very sure what is enough info.

Looking for a support group, if one exists!

I literally never know what to flair, I'm sorry if I shouldve picked a diff one!!

I have a couple of long-term health conditions, and I dont know many people with similar experiences. It gets me down from time to time, and it would probably help to link in with people who deal with similar stuff. Talk about the daily challenges, speaking to medical professionals, workplace adjustments, that sort of thing. I don't want to publicly post my conditions to such a broad audience, but they are pain related.

I wondered if anyone was aware of any support groups? If theyre in/around EH5 then thats a plus. I work full time atm so something in the evening would be great. Also happy for online alternatives!

If no such thing exists, I might have to create it. Anyone who is just interested - please comment also!
