Any zone 4 planters here? How are your dahlias doing?

I’m a first time dahlia grower in zone 4 (4b to be exact). I started my tubers indoors somewhat late at the end of April, so I still have mostly tiny sprouts. They’re still indoors, I’ve been hardening off the bigger babies but the weather has been unpredictable. Overall the growth has been super slow, and I’m not sure if it’s me, the soil, the climate, the amount I’m watering/not watering, how far away the lights are, or the million other variables it could be 😆 Just really going day by day at this point but my goal since the beginning has been to have them in the raised garden beds on June 1, so I’m still hopeful for that.

Weird Here to Help: Pasties? In this Minnesota?

I so appreciate the love that Minnesota gets from Steve and Eric every time a caller is from here. But Steve, you’re killing me. Pasties are a Michigan thing. He’s asked a few Minnesotans about them now, and while I’m sure you can find a pasty somewhere in this state, they're not really a thing here like they are in Michigan. We’re the hotdish people.
