Questions about Data/Text/Calls package for South Africa

I am looking into buying a local eSIM for my 2 week trip to South Africa, and I noticed that there is an option to buy a package that includes text and calls too. I may need to call the place I am staying upon arrival in South Africa, and they do not seem to have any WiFi calling options, so this package may be useful for me.

I have the following questions about the package, thanks in advance for any insight!

  1. From what I understand, local eSims will provide the best coverage when visiting a single country. From googling about the data/text/calls option, a lot of results suggest that texts and calls are only included as part of global sims (Discover+). I just want to confirm whether my eSim would be still a local one if I opt for including text/calls?

  2. Would text/calls cover calls made within South Africa only, or would they cover any global calls?

Does anyone have any experience using Afrihost's AirMobile eSim as a tourist?

I'll be visiting South Africa for two weeks from the UK, and I'm considering using Afrihost's AirMobile eSim whilst I'm out there. The main reason being that it will give me a local number so I can make cheaper phone calls within South Africa. I know that most people seem to recommend buying a physical SIM at the airport, but I don't have much time between when I land at the airport and when I'll be picked up from arrivals, so I don't want to rely on finding the time to do that.

AirMobile looks like a good option, but I can't find much in the way of reviews etc. It would be good to hear about how reliable people have found the service, whether it provided good signal (I'll be in rural areas of the Eastern Cape a lot), and for those that don't live in South Africa - how you found getting RICA approval before arriving in the country. Any info will be great, thanks!
