Painting a previously wallpapered wall - advice needed!

Hi there, I’m planning on painting my bathroom for a little refresh. One of the walls in this bathroom has wallpaper that I plan on removing and then prepping the wall to paint, but I have a couple of questions I’m hoping Reddit can help answer. :)
- the house was built in the 1950s, but this portion was an addition that my husband and I are fairly certain happened in the 70s. That said, do you think I would need to test the layers of paint underneath the wallpaper for lead prior to sanding?
- The wallpaper peels off pretty easily, and there’s a layer of adhesive that would need to be smoothed out. Is sanding really all that’s needed to get it where it needs to be for paint?
