Right now, many survivors of rape are told their trauma "happened too long ago" to deserve justice. That's not okay.
I started a petition to change the statute of limitations on rape to unlimited. Here's why: About 69% of sexual assaults go unreported because survivors need time—sometimes years—to process what happened to them and find the courage to come forward. An arbitrary deadline shouldn't punish them for healing at their own pace.
Plus, DNA technology has made it possible to solve cases decades later. Removing these time limits means we can actually *use* modern forensic science to bring perpetrators to justice, no matter when the crime occurred.
States like California and New York have already done this for certain sexual offenses. It works. It sends a message: we believe survivors, and justice matters more than an outdated deadline.
If this matters to you—or if you know someone who's been hurt by this system—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?
