Penn spinfisher 8500

Penn spinfisher 8500

I have a Penn spinfisher 6 8500 and quite frankly never use it, I bought it at a really good discount from Amazon and don’t really know what to do with it. The only rod I have for it is a heavy 7footer I can use for the pier but I don’t really have the need to buy a long 11-12ft rod for it. The surf fishing I mainly do I with lures on a 9footer and I simply just use that to soak bait if the day is slow. Should I just sell it or just buy another rod for it?

I probably want to sell it since i want to save save up for a Twinpower 6k

Shimano line capacity question?

Would like people who own the 6000 size SW Stella/Twin Power/Saragosa to tell me how much line they have spooled on? On the American website for the Twinpower it states 290 yds for 30lbs, however I am skeptical about this since line companies lie about their thickness, let alone the reel company itself. I have heard that Shimano, with their already small line capacity has actually less available line capacity than listed. I can probably go with some thin PE 2 silk ocean braid if need be but that stuff is expensive.

As of now I am using a 4500 Penn spinfisher which has a listed rating of 250yds of 30lbs but I have found that I could spool on more (Original power pro). Would like to try a Shimano reel but the line capacity has me stumped.

Van stack sizes

I currently own a Penn spinfisher 4500 on a 9ft rod which roughly carries 250 yds of 30 pound braid as listed on the website (I’ve fit mostly close to 300 from power pro). I am here to ask which vanstaal VR size fits best for me and my application, so to choose between the 50 and the 75 which I under stand needs mono backing which size fits best? From van staal from 50 to 75 sizes respectively it list out that it carries 360/20 and 430/20 of braid.

DIY lure

Any idea if this will work? Weighs an ounce and moves around a lot (can probably snag itself) but I haven’t caught anything yet but I’m hoping for some blues, spanish Mack,or even some trout.

First diy lure

Was bored and was inspired by coin lures online and decided to try to make my own lure. It weighs roughly an ounce and I intend to use it when surf fishing. Can probably catch some spanish Mack or some spotted trout. Any thoughts?

Faulty rod

Just got a new Penn battalion II 9ft medium for my self and everything was fine but the reel seat wasn’t aligned properly, as you can see from these photos (which aren’t the best I know), I bought this rod in store and I have a two year warranty for it. Should I go back to the store and replace it (pretty sure they only had the one in stock). Or keep using it if the angle isn’t that harsh

Yozuri hydro twitch bait question

Is this normal? Bought it online and has holes around the lure where the exposed wire is. Since it’s a wire through can it be that? Will the water inside affect the action?

Lure question

When I was out at the surf (first time trying lures) I was tossing a 1 oz yozuri inshore twitch bait at 4 3/8inch, I was catching some fish with it like a spanish Mack and some spotted trout, the 1 oz worked fine but I felt that it was a little lacking and so I decided to buy the hydro 6 inch twitch bait since it was a little heavier and I could cast out more. However, I worry that the 6 inch lure might be a little big and I’ll have a harder time catching more fish. Should the 6inch still be fine, and catch the same fish?
