SABA Bodensee W3 Thrift Store Score

Hey everyone, new guy here who's been wanting to find an old radio for his tiki space and ended up with a bit of a find.

Today my 15 year old snapped a pic of an old radio he thought I'd like. I did just a few minutes of research after he got home and showed me and we were racing back to the thrift store! $40 and I was walking out with a 40 pound 73 ish year old radio.

From what I can tell so far, everything is there. However, I have no idea how to tell if any of the tubes are bad. It looks like the plug has been updated to a three prong and it's set to 110V.

I'm tempted to plug it in and see what happens, but I also don't want to wreck it within a couple hours of getting it home. I'm curious if anyone has thoughts on it, especially the writing and stamped text on the inside.

Thanks!

Nearing 50 and Kneeboard Curious

At the risk of writing an introduction here, I'm approaching 50. I grew wanting to surf. My mom did back in the 60s (she still has her board) and I did some bodyboarding whenever we'd camp at the beach in my youth. I tried to surf once as a teen with no lessons, no practice, and zero athleticism. Yeah, I kooked it pretty hard.

Fast forward into adulthood, fatherhood, and I'm looking for motivation to get in better shape. Aha! Surfing! And that's been really good for me. I'm still about 250lbs, but I'm also probably the strongest I've been in at least 30 years.

So I still enjoy bodyboarding and have had some surf lessons. If anything, they've shown me where I still have some weaknesses. But during those, I have gotten to my knees and done some unintentional kneeboarding.

Now, I'm starting to wonder if that's an avenue worth exploring further. I guess I'm hoping to find some resources because searching it up tends to give me more results of the lake-going variety than the ocean going style.

They seem to be shorter, wider boards. But starting out, could I just use my longboard while I get a feel for things?
