Audio Upgrade / Sub

Absolutely love my US-spec ID. Buzz, but the factory audio is honestly atrocious. The bass ducking/compression is so aggressive it makes some songs almost unlistenable. And almost all songs unlistenable over 50% volume.
My hope is to turn the bass down on the factory speakers and let a low-profile powered sub handle the low end. After a ton of research, I’m thinking the cleanest install is tapping the rear speaker wires under the passenger-side sliding door kick plate, then running a short lead to the rear cargo area and powering the sub from the factory 12V cargo outlet (cigarette lighter) hot with near ground that’s already in the trunk.
Most installs I’ve found are from Europe, and they’re completely dismantling the interior.
Has anyone done something similar or found a better speaker tap location? I’d love to hear what worked and whether you were happy with the results.
