movies like i’m thinking of ending things and last year at marienbad?

hi! i’m looking for films with a similar vibe to i’m thinking of ending things and last year at marienbad.

i really love movies that feel like:
- dreamlike / memory-like instead of straightforward stories.
- psychologically weird or unstable (identity, time, reality blurring)
- quiet, lonely, emotionally unsettling
- more symbolic/poetic than plot-driven

and just overall ambiguous, where you’re not totally sure what’s real. some others i’ve liked: persona, synecdoche, new york, mulholland drive.

any recs (any country/era) appreciated :) usually the more niche the better as it’s likelier i haven’t seen it! thank you. <3

movies like synecdoche, new york? and safe (todd haynes)

movies that feel like a slow collapse of the self.
something where a person can no longer “perform” their life correctly; socially, emotionally, or even physically, and that breakdown becomes the focus.
bonus if it deals with dissociation, identity loss, burnout, or the body rejecting expectation.

other movies like this that i’ve enjoyed are: huesera woman (mexican horror movie) as well as the currents (2025 argentina) melancholia, saint maud, repulsion, a woman under the influence, jeanne dielman, morvern callar, aftersun, and the double life of veronique.

any recommendations are welcome. the more niche the better as it’s likelier i haven’t already seen it. thank you!
