Korean Movies for Guys — What Should I Watch?

I’m specifically looking for Korean movies that aren’t centered around romance or love stories.

Give me your best recommendations for action, crime, thrillers, revenge, gangster/Yakuza-style stuff, war, mystery, psychological, or just genuinely badass movies.

Basically, the kind of Korean movies you’d recommend to a guy who wants something intense and entertaining.

What are your must-watch picks?

Is there a movie where a poor guy pretends to be rich and tricks a gold digger?

I know there are lots of movies about gold diggers and rich guys but is there a movie where they sort of both trick each other? Comedy or serious, movie doesn't matter. I just thought I'd be interested to see a movie with that premise.

Any movies about the defunding and closing of psychiatric asylums in the 1970s?

Could be a documentary but would prefer dramatized movie about it. I might be uneducated on the subject, but I picture nurses or doctors being scared shirtless knowing some of their patients were going to just be let out into the public.

What movie to see in IMAX?

I love this community. This is why I'm asking for all your opinions, please 😊

I won a free Regal IMAX movie for 2026, and we're in August already. I haven't used it yet because IMAX is about an hour away from me.

What movie would \*\*YOU\*\* choose to see in IMAX, going forward? It can be \*\*any movie\*\* you want. I'm just looking for suggestions what movie would be best.

I don't know anything about IMAX, so I don't know what movie I should see in IMAX.

Thank you so much!!

Please recommend some classics!

I feel like there are a lot of "classic" movies which I haven't seen (e.g. Scarface). Or, if I have seen them, I didn't really like them very much (e.g. The Godfather). There are definitely a bunch I've seen and loved (like The Third Man and The Great Escape) but I do still get the "Oh my God you've never seen [movie]?!" response pretty frequently from people.

So please recommend classic movies you think I should watch so i can close my media experience gap! Any era is fine, from silent movies to current classics!

What movie or miniseries had you completely hooked?

Something with drama, intrigue, and mystery the kind of show where you start watching one episode and end up watching until 4 a.m. because you just have to know what happens. What do you recommend? I love that genre, even though I watch all kinds of shows.

Kidnapped woman films?

Damsel in distress films that centre around the woman’s kidnapping and captivity (rather than the investigation to find her).

*I’m particularly looking for classic rope and gag aesthetic rather than metal chains and handcuffs.

Such as:
- The Collector 1965
- The Candy Snatchers 1973

Therapist banned horror for two days

I watch horror movies and shows all the time. I read horror books every night. But I’m having a lot of nightmares, and while some of those shows like Supernatural are comforting to me, she says the images might still linger in my mind, so she wants to test it, no horror for 48 hours and see if the nightmares go away. But I have nothing else to watch or read 😭 please recommend your favorite non horror shows and movies

What is your go to movie to watch?

I just want to watch a movie that I don’t have to pick. What’s a movie that is your go to? The one you put on when you’re bored, sad, happy, or wanting background noise.

[recommend me] A movie like Frisky Dingo?

Absurdist animated comedy that was weirdly prescient, making it both “before its time” and yielding multiple actors who would go on to have great careers.

(FYI: it was a 11 minute long show poking fun at the superhero genre that started roughly a year or few before the Marvel craze back ‘round 07, yet stands on its own. Something I consider quintessential millennial humour along with “Legend of Neil” and Bitey from “Brackenwood”.)

It was a once-in-a-generation event so I’m not expecting much but I’m curious to see what gets thrown around as a rec regardless.

***

PS: Archer is a direct descendant yet not quite what I’m looking for. It’s not nearly the same. The closest (IMHO) I’ve found myself is Farzar.

* But more to the point I’m curious if in particular a movie manages the same. Not a show. Other shows come near to the mark but movies? I can’t think of, well, any, TbH.

Insididous/Conjuring with Redneck Gun Enthusiast protaganist?

Hey people's, my friend and I are watching a few horror movies recently. All the movies we watched are playing in the US and we never really saw the private use of guns, only some cops in conjuring I think. We want an movie where they fire the shit out of these stupid assholes. Rambo like or just a few crazy Rednecks we think that the concept could be really cool and we know there's like in universe explanation in most movies that you can't destroy them like that but we can also see that they seem to feel hurt or experience pain on physical contact.

So, if you have any Ideas or thoughts what we could watch, we would appreciate it deeply.

Any Mind Bending Movies?

Just rewatched Shutter Island after a long time, and it reminded me how much I love mind-bending movies. The impact of the twist at the end still gives me chill.

So I researched and someone suggested Arrival and I loved every bit of it.

Looking for some more recommendations that really mess with your head and leave you thinking about them afterward.

Educational/Informational documentaries?

I feel like I can only ever find good plot-based documentaries, like True Crime or Medical Cases. What are your favorite informational documents?

I mean no story, no characters, just a bunch of information.

Also, please only recommend documentaries that are on Netflix or YouTube

Movies with/about healthy, wholesome heterosexual relationships?

I mean, obviously most movies have to include some form of drama, but there are so many movies where the relationship is either outright bad or just toxic or forms in some very toxic way (for example stuff like The Notebook or the Titanic), are there any movies where the circumstances are healthy start to finish (I mean arguements and disagreements are fine as long as it's in a healthy manner). The movie doesn't even have to be directly about the couple as long as it plays a prominent part. I just want movies that can restore faith in healthy relationships that aren't some "I was in a bad relationship so I cheated on my partner and found this new person and it's so great" way
