Get off your damn phones!

I know this is more of a universal complaint than Portland specific, but i do most of my driving in and around Portland so this is where I'm seeing it.

GET OFF YOUR FUCKING PHONES WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING.

I'm not going to spout the same shit about it being unsafe -- if you text and drive, you know it's unsafe and you just don't care. I just want you to know that IF you do this, EVERYONE AROUND YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU'RE DOING.

You're not being sneaky. You're not "good at it". You're not special. You're going to cause an accident at some point, or worse, kill someone. Grow the fuck up and don't touch your phone while you're operating a several-ton piece of equipment.

Please recommend some classics!

I feel like there are a lot of "classic" movies which I haven't seen (e.g. Scarface). Or, if I have seen them, I didn't really like them very much (e.g. The Godfather). There are definitely a bunch I've seen and loved (like The Third Man and The Great Escape) but I do still get the "Oh my God you've never seen [movie]?!" response pretty frequently from people.

So please recommend classic movies you think I should watch so i can close my media experience gap! Any era is fine, from silent movies to current classics!

Starting swing lessons in September

I got dumped recently and my post-breakup impulse purchase was to enroll in beginner swing dancing lessons. The course will go for 7 weeks and then there are other beginner level classes I can take before moving on to more advanced classes.

I am excited but VERY nervous. I have absolutely zero dance experience (unless you count contra dancing 20 years ago when I was in high school) but I'm looking forward to learning. I've bought dance sneakers and am ready to use them

Any advice for a total newbie? Anything you all wish you'd known before starting?

Anyone lose a bike in/around Back Cove?

It's low tide right now, looks like this bike was definitely in the water at high tide. Other than being wet, from a distance it looks like it's in good condition so I don't think it's been there very long. If this bike is yours, it's on the rocks right by the 1 3/4 mile marker.

What is this bug?

Found this big guy (about the length of my thumb) while hiking Mt Olympus in Greece earlier this week. At first we thought maybe an underdeveloped moth of some kind, like it had come out of the cocoon too early, but it was walking quite quickly and didn't seem to be struggling.

Is there anywhere I can find sheet music for "All In Good Time" by Iron & Wine?

I am not a musician but I am a weaver who specializes in translating sheet music into weaving patterns. I have a customer who wants me to weave him a scarf for his wife from "All In Good Time" by Iron & Wine, and I cannot find sheet music for it anywhere!

What I have found is the guitar chords, but what I need is the sheet music for the vocal part of the song. While I am not tone deaf, I cannot identify notes just based on hearing them and so having the sheet music is important for me to be able to translate the song to a pattern for my loom.

If anybody is able to help me with this, I would hugely appreciate it!

Glow up!

I did the same event in 2025 and 2026 with VERY different set-ups. Both times were learning experiences for me, and in 2025 I had no tent, no lighting, and a minimalistic set up which did not serve me well.

This year, I got lights, a tent, a better display rack, and better advertising (banner, rack cards, and the nice little foam sign on the table). While I know there are still improvements I could make, I'm so proud of the progress I've made so far!

Wtf Google?

Why does the new app not auto-log a workout when I start it on my watch??

Is there something I need to do or some setting i need to change in order for my watch to load my workout to the app? The app recorded all my steps for a 3.75 mile walk but didn't log it as an actual workout even though I started the workout on my watch; I had to add the workout manually and I feel like that's going to mess with my metrics
