Soooo this guy is overdue for retirement 🫠

I think someone is overdue for retirement. Saw this guy (and a few others) recently and figured I’d give you all the joy of seeing this ESL 1025c with a handwritten install date of 03-26-1990. I believe these were commonly branded as Simplex amongst other manufacturers, however I am not sure how common they are in residential vs. commercial installations of the time.

Originally installed with a blue “westec security systems” large residential panel in the early 1980. In use with the original panel up until 2017, the panel was replaced with a modern DMP (Digital Monitoring Products) unit and brought over from POTS monitoring. Apparently nobody thought to check if the smokes were from this century, oh lord…

Did someone say IBM in the lab 👀

Newest addition. IBM POWER8 running IBM i, aka the AS/400 for anyone who remembers. goes alongside the usual windows + enterprise VoIP + proxmox stuff.

Power draw isn’t bad actually. everything’s monitored and anything sitting idle can get powered down since there’s enough redundancy to cover it.

IBM is not exactly chatty with the uninitiated so you kind of need a dealer for the initial licensing and install. but once it’s up there’s plenty for it to do.

first boot was a rite of passage lol.
