Hey guys I'm 21 yo, [Bsc IT grad this month] ..let's start from beginning... When i passed my 10th in 2021 i pursued PCM in for my high school, because I really wanted to be a software engineer, i didn't realise that I was just following the herd mentality because my friends were pursuing that and I was also interested in computers I still enjoy learning new tech but I wasn't really not able to figure out that I really love that work, because I always felt burnout whenever learning things in consistency, but I was always attracted to eco and finance always but I had no idea how vast this field is, there are quants, economist, statistician and more. I started learning eco and maths few months before. And I really found it very very intresting, i came to know that there's prestigious MS degree provided by ISI called MSQE (Quantitative economics). Like I'm an IT guy and also love to do task which is data oriented and I love finance too that's why I started preparing for the entrance, i never took maths seriously before, as I do now. I'm revising maths 4-6 hrs daily and read economics from basics and want to get into quant finance and related to this i love trading too.. I had low marks in 12th, in maths only 39. Because I didn't study due to some specific and bullishit reason. But I'm too serious now. Can pls anyone guide me how do I make a great carrier in this. I wanted to study statistics too but my 12th maths marks never let me to do so.
Hi everyone,
I really need some honest advice because I feel completely stuck right now.
I’ve completed my BSc IT from a tier-3 college. There was no placement support at all, so I’ve been on my own from the start.
Initially, I focused on Data Analytics. I learned the skills, built some knowledge, and applied to a lot of jobs — but the reality hit me hard: almost every role requires experience, and as a fresher, I wasn’t getting any responses.
Then I shifted towards Data Engineering, thinking it might have better opportunities. But after talking to people on subreddits and researching more, I found the same pattern — entry-level roles are very limited and still expect experience.
Some people suggested I pivot to DevOps / SRE along with ML & Agentic AI, and try to break into the industry through that path first. But when I checked platforms like Naukri and LinkedIn, the situation looks similar — most openings still ask for experience.
Right now, I’m unemployed. I graduated just last month, and I don’t want to waste time going in the wrong direction again.
So I want honest answers from you all:
- Is DevOps/SRE actually a better entry point for freshers, or is it the same struggle?
- Which field currently gives the best ROI for time invested for someone like me?
- Should I focus on one domain deeply or try a hybrid skillset?
- What would you do if you were in my position starting from zero again?
I’m not afraid of hard work — I just don’t want to spend months again on something that won’t lead anywhere.
Any real, practical advice would mean a lot.
Thanks.
Hey everyone,
I need some real, no-BS advice.
I’ve just completed my BSc IT (3-year degree) from a tier 3 college, final exams are done, and right now I’m basically starting from scratch career-wise.
After thinking it through, I decided to go into Data Engineering. My plan is to also learn some ML/AI concepts on the side (especially things like RAG), but keep DE as my core.
Right now I’ve started with Krish Naik’s Big Data Engineering Bootcamp (Udemy). So far it’s going fine, and I’m planning to spend the next 3–4 months learning properly + building solid projects.
But here’s my concern:
- I’m a fresher with no experience
- My college background isn’t strong
- I previously tried Data Analytics but didn’t get a job
- And honestly, this field also feels very crowded
So I’m trying to figure out the reality, not just motivation:
Is it actually realistic to get a Data Engineering job as a fresher like me?
What should I really focus on to stand out (not generic advice like “do projects”)?
How deep should I go into tools vs fundamentals?
What kind of projects actually get attention?
What salary range is realistic for someone in my position in India?
If DE is too tough to break into directly, what would be the smartest entry path?
I’m ready to put in the work, but I don’t want to waste months doing the wrong things again like I feel I did with Data Analytics.
Would really appreciate honest advice from people already working in the field.
Thanks.
