“Over a month w/o being able to eat.
More than a month unable to eat, without the medical care I desperately need. This was my condition a few weeks ago. I was already so weak and unwell that I was terrified of what might happen. I am still very scared.

I’m so, so sorry if I can’t answer messages for now. But please know that I read and feel every message, and I’m deeply grateful for every donation, comment, prayer, or thought. Every bit of support means more to me than I can put into words. 🙏🙏🙏🫂🫂🫂🤍🤍🤍

The belt lifts my stomach for gastroptosis and helps with aortomesenteric compression. The passage from my stomach to my intestines is barely 5–6 mm, worsening my gastroparesis, which gets worse with every weight loss.” (Ali’s Reddit is u/Foreign7801)

The lateral ableism that I come across every month on self promotion day on the main subreddit is heartbreaking

Need help with TLDR/summary please🙏🏻

I don’t have the cognitive capacity to discuss this the way I would like to, but I just wanted to express that it makes me feel very upset and disappointed that there is so much skepticism and ableism that is directed towards people who are often the most vulnerable and disabled within the ME community, and I am infuriated that there is not more being done to address it.

To expect people who are pushing their physical limits just by using their phones to be able to advocate for themselves, and to be forced to post it on a single day of the month no matter what their capacity is, to then go on to expect them to prove that they really do need assistance, or that they’re even real to begin with, is so wrong to me I can’t even put it into words. How cruel can people be? Why are the most disabled of us expected to do the work for them to prove that we are deserving of funds or care?

And why is it being allowed to happen every single month without any repercussions or even discussions about it happening?

It does not feel like a safe space to me anymore, and I even fear posting for my profoundly severe friend on there because she is unable to defend herself as she’s too sick to even see the posts themselves.

And I worry that if she is unable to provide updated images or context (which always causes her severe PEM/crashes) then I will be faced with a barrage of questions or skepticism, which completely defeats the purpose of mutual/direct aid to begin with! Especially for those of us on the severest end of the ME spectrum.

Update on Ali’s Fundraiser- She Needs Ongoing Support!

PayPal: @AliwME

Ko-fi: ko-fi.com/aliwme

I helped lead a campaign on Instagram last month for Ali’s July expenses, which thanks to everyone’s donations and engagement was an incredible success!!❤️

In Ali’s words (voice transcripted):

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who donated, shared the campaign, helped in anyway, or simply kept me in your thoughts. You have made a difference in my life that is difficult to put into words.

Because of your kindness, I was able to completely pay back the loan I had to take out to pay my caregivers when they were leaving after the robbery.

I was also able to replace some of the things that were stolen, and I’ve managed to raise almost all of the money I need to cover caregiving costs for July.”

For August, Ali needs ongoing assistance to maintain access to caregivers and other essential needs. She is in constant debilitating pain from hEDS and needs a better mattress and bed that can support her joints.

Please consider supporting Ali’s well-being and safety, whether it’s through donating, sharing, or having Ali in your thoughts. She is very thankful for everything you are able to give 💙

Has anyone here gotten a ketamine infusion?

I was prescribed sublingual ketamine over the phone for pain, and it ended up making my depression/suicidal ideation disappear almost entirely.

The last few days the effects have started to taper off due to increased stress, and I’m worried that I will need an infusion in order for my depression/suicidal ideation to stabilize long term.

The clinic (eight minute drive away) said that they usually do it over six sessions. I am 90-95% bedbound but have been able to tolerate being upright for longer without PEM because of ivabradine.

I’m not sure what accommodations they offer yet but was hoping other people would have insight on whether the exertion of this was worth the outcome.

I know these clinics typically have low sensory levels, like reclining seats/dim lighting/etc so I am feeling more confident that it may be worth it if it can reduce my levels of depression and suicidal ideation. ❤️🥲

It will be out of pocket, $450 USD per session so any insight is really appreciated.

(Help with summary if possible/needed, please)

New subreddit for people living with Severe ME!

Hi all! A group of us with severe+ ME have created a r/SevereME subreddit!

We created this sub in hopes to giving those living with severe, very severe, profoundly severe ME and every severity in between a space to share about this unique lived experience.

Since we (mods) all have severe+ ME, we move in crip time and hope to create a low pressure environment that honors each of our bodyminds in taking on this role.

In this sub, we will strive to follow Disability Justice and Transformative Justice principles. Our dream for this space is to create community care by centering the voices of those most marginalized, allowing mutual aid posts, and encouraging everyone to show up fully as themselves.

Living with severe / very severe / profoundly severe ME can be an intensely isolating experience with specific struggles. This will be a place to share anything and everything, with compassion and love.

I’ll do my best to answer any questions if there are any!!❤️ Thanks for reading and hope to virtually exist in community with you all in any capacity🥰🕺

Ali’s fundraiser update: she is now extremely/profoundly severe and her life is at risk

Ko-fi:

@AliwME

Ali asked me to post an update for self promotion day. She is still in crisis. We missed the opportunity to post for June's SPD due to Ali being too sick to give us any updates until it had already passed.

Her life is now at risk and everyone working on her mutual aid has severe/very severe ME so it has been an immense struggle raising awareness for her fundraiser.

Things were a nightmare at the hospital. The psychiatrists forced her to talk for half an hour a day when she can barely say three words. They didn't listen to a word she said and made references to her physical symptoms as psychiatric.

The hospital will no longer admit her, and the risk of being placed in a psych ward is too high.

Back at home, she managed to hire two caregivers (thanks to past donations), but it wasn't enough help. Even just moving her arms to drink from a bottle, take pills, and use a bedpan causes her to crash. She's spent many hours of the day alone.

She could only afford to pay a very low wage, and the caregivers she has lack empathy for her. She's been treated very poorly. Recently, one of her caregivers stole €720 from her while she was asleep. Because of this, she no longer has the funds to pay for ongoing help. She's too unwell to cancel her credit cards, change her passwords, etc. and has no in-person support other than her paid caregivers.

She hasn't been able to sleep for days and is deteriorating fast. She needs funds to pay the caregivers she has and find new ones who actually care and are willing to learn about very severe ME.

In her own words:

"I have too many problems, and my body and mind can't take any more. I think l've already become profound, or I'm very close to it. I'm very desperate, very frightened, and I don't know what to do. Even arranging care requires an enormous amount of mental effort, and physically the support I have is not sufficient. I still can't find enough peace, support, and competent care for my illnesses."

Please feel free to spread Ali's story and spread awareness of her situation to anyone that could be of help. She is near Granada, Spain.

‼️Important information re: ME/CFS being mistaken for autistic burnout‼️

Hello friends!!👋🏻

I created this subreddit in 2024, searching for support and community when I was experiencing what I believed to be autistic burnout.

The symptoms I had at the time were fatigue, cognitive difficulties, executive dysfunction, unable to tolerate the things I used to, and needing more breaks.

Over the next three years, using the tools/recommendations for autistic burnout has contributed to me becoming 95% bedridden, having severe debilitating symptoms everyday that leave me unable to leave my apartment or sit upright for longer than a few minutes.

PLEASE read the following information if you are not familiar with ME/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and post exertional malaise. ME can be life threatening in its most severe stages, and up to 90% of people living with it are undiagnosed.

Post exertional malaise is a worsening of symptoms and/or occurrence of new symptoms that happens after minimal exertion. It is the hallmark symptom of ME/CFS and is not officially documented to occur in any other condition.

PEM typically onsets between 24-72 hours following the activity but can be immediate, or show up even a week later.

Mild ME/CFS can mirror other conditions (such as autistic burnout) BUT there are some key differences:

• ME is usually triggered by a viral infection, but some people have no clear trigger (like me), just symptoms that gradually worsen

• Fatigue that isn’t alleviated from sleep or rest

• Doing recommended advice for autistic burnout such as going out/doing more causes ME symptoms to worsen, not improve

My mutual @disabledandcool on Instagram has a great informative post about the presentations of mild ME and what to look out for in his pinned posts.

Some other valuable resources:

Since last month’s self promotion post, Ali has been transferred to a different hospital where she is being surveilled by psychiatric doctors daily, causing her symptoms to worsen.

She needs 24-hour care and is extremely weak, both physically and mentally. She is being denied access to sufficient IV fluids.

Ali has zero income, little in-person support, and is unable to move, speak, or care for herself.

If you are able, please consider donating to help Ali pay for care, food, and other medical necessities!

(Please note that while Ali’s Ko-fi goal is shown as reached, this is from previous fundraising and Ali still urgently needs donations. She is too ill to update the fundraiser goal but says that all funds from the past year have been used.)
