I've made this terrariums a few days ago for potential isopods. Though mold has started to grow a bit everywhere on the wood (I cooked the wood for 2hours before using it to sterilise it) after i've started watering it.
I don't really know how to get rid of it, i added a few springtails, but the mold only grew bigger. Any tips ?
(So don't mind the crappy quality of the picture.)
I'm pretty sure i'm about to be a grandad, i came home and checked on them and saw that two of my females were pregnant! I haven't noticed them before as i pretty much leave them alone to not stress them out. Does anyone know how far long they are ? And does anyone have any tips to avoid any abortion as i know it is a common thing for roaches who are not met with the correct conditions.
Enclosure and nutrition :
I feed them on carrots, beetle jelly, fish flakes (their favorite) and calcium hydratation balls (whatever the hell they're called, along with a cuttle fish bone cause they don't seem to like the balls...).
As for their terrarium, they are in a plastic container 40x25x13 cm.
I'd say bioactive : substrate, wooden pieces and a coconut as hidding spots along with moss and springtails.
Although i think it might be a bit dry as my enclosure doesn't hold humidity that well since it's plastic and has a LOT of ventilation.
So, please help a first timer roach owner if you have any tips or upgrades i can do... I'm open to any critics, i want what's best for them !
So i have a tiny colony of pachnodas and one out of the six (adults) i have wasn't doing so well, didn't pupae well, its adult form was in between larva and beetle stage, wasn't going to live. Knew that. Though i got quite surprised when i opened my terrarium and found three of them eating the body, i didn't know they were cannibalistic, although it seems more like a detritivore behaviour to me ?
In all case, RIP to the small guy.
