Is there a birth control that won’t make me crazy or crampy?

I (22) have been on nexplanon for the last 7 months and I feel insane. Im anxious all the time, I get mad at the smallest things, I am bloated in my face and stomach (my upper stomach has started getting larger than the lower part), and I am more insecure than I have ever been.

I started taking it because my cramps were terrible to the point where I had to miss work and I also really really really don’t want kids and neither does my bf. My periods have been nearly painless since starting but I am spotting constantly and have only been completely bleeding free for about 2 weeks (not consecutive just a couple of days in between that add up). It’s also been affecting my relationship. I’ve become so jealous and suspicious and angry with my bf all the time and I know I was not that kind of person before I started.

I know that the copper iud is non hormonal and probably the best option but I’ve heard a lot of horror stories about insertion, migration, and heavy/painful periods after getting it and I don’t know if I can go back to being in that much pain all the time. Im also a smoker so birth control with estrogen is an absolute no go for me.

I asked my bf what he would think about me going off bc all together and he is anxious about it because he never wants kids but I don’t know if it’s worth the stress Im putting on my body. I am also very anxious about getting pregnant because I smoke and drink frequently and frankly I don’t think I would ever want children but I feel like my body is breaking down having this stupid rod in. Does anyone have good experiences from the copper IUD or a progesterone only bc that didn’t make living a nightmare?
