Atlantic City.. disappointed.
Came here for a long weekend to celebrate my boyfriend and I’s August birthdays. And although we had a fun time mostly because we were together, I have to say.. we weren’t extremely impressed and are leaving slightly disappointed in AC as a whole.
For starters, the boardwalk. I haven’t been here in about 5 years or so and it seemed to have declined significantly since then. We were aware that outside of the strip, AC itself isn’t the “nicest” of all neighborhoods, however the homeless population living on the boardwalk was really sad to see. And the minimal times we ventured outside of the strip, the neighborhood seemed to be even more run down than before. Overall it was just a sad site.
We stayed at Tropicana in the Havana tower and enjoyed the Quarter area and all the clubs and food options but the service was just ehh. Not many helpful employees, ice machines broken on multiple floors, no response from front desk when calling down from the hotel stuff. Little stuff that maybe was just our bad luck but when added up felt extra disappointing. The minimum bets per chip value at the Roulette table felt like straight up theft. Unless you’re lucky enough and fall into a hot streak, don’t expect to be playing long.
We felt as though there was an up charge/additional charge for everything, way more excessive than the typical tourist location charges. between the casino and boardwalk itself, couldn’t count how many times we were surprised by little sprinkled on fees. $1.25 for a side of ranch when we ordered two meals with sides on the boardwalk… cmon. Even the ticket prices for the rides on steel pier, ridiculous.
Highlights for us were the Hook variety show in Caesars which is sadly ending in a couple of weeks. We enjoyed the show and the acts were fantastic. We also enjoyed the food overall, having enjoyed good dinners at Carmines and Casa Taco inside Tropicana. Tony Lukes, however. Terrible. Barely any steak meat on the cheesesteaks, and, as previously referenced, $1.25 for a small side of store bought ranch.
Idk. We went to Vegas back in March for the same amount of time, and even though I wouldn’t consider them on the same caliber for a 1:1 comparison, the difference in experience was profound. Probably our last time going to AC unless for a given reason, rather pay the extra couple hundred bucks and enjoy Vegas, where at least we felt got our moneys worth.
Would love to hear thoughts of anyone who may have shared a similar or even different experience.
