POV: Carrying the title is harder than it looks.

Alexey Melnychuk didn't play a single full match in the 2026 playoffs, but he made, probably, the most important save in the history of the KHL!

Positive news on KHL draft pick Prokhor Poltapov

Looks like we might finally be getting some good news on one of the Russian prospect.

According to reports, Prokhor Poltapov is expected to stay with CSKA for one more season before potentially making the jump to North America after his contract expires.

Given how difficult the Russia-to-NHL pipeline has been lately, this honestly feels pretty encouraging. The kid’s compete level and two-way game have looked solid, and he’s been developing against men in the KHL instead of putting up inflated junior numbers.

If he actually comes over in 2027, where do you guys see him fitting into the lineup long term? Middle-six energy winger?

According to Pro Hockey Rumors, goalie prospect Ilya Nabokov has wrapped up his season with Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL) and is expected to make the move to North America soon - starting in the AHL.

The numbers from 2025-26:
- 38 games
- 0.901 save percentage

Not his strongest season statistically (bit of a dip from previous years), but still viewed as a top prospect in the system. Development in the AHL could be exactly what he needs to adjust to the North American game.

Thoughts on where he slots into our goalie pipeline?

Back in 2018, he seemed like he was a bit with the head in the clouds... however he seems like he's been doing some good stuff back at the KHL with the HC Dynamo Moscow.

For context: Der-Arguchintsev was originally selected 76th overall by the Leafs in the third round of the 2018 NHL Draft from the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. He was part of their system between 2021 and 2023, spending the majority of that time with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies, scoring a combined 76 points (25 goals and 51 assists) in 107 games.

So seems Zharovsky is staying in the KHL for 2026–27. Feels like we’re gonna have to wait forever to see what this kid actually is at the NHL level 😅

Zharovsky was a three-time Rookie of the Month at the KHL and was named to the league’s All-Star Game.

With 16 goals and 42 points in 59 games, Zharovsky ranked third on Salavat scoring and was second in points per game.
