300k to invest, 38 m uk now or never
Good afternoon, I am 38 male uk. I have 300k wrapped in stock and shares isa but its just sitting there not invested. I have my own house paid for and will have another 200k to live on. I have been holding back for years incase I time it wrong, I feel its now or never. I have been looking at drip feeding maybe 20k a month into lifestrategy 100 and just leave it and see what it does. Is this good plan and is now bad time to do this?

Initial Case Summary for Potential Solicitors
My name is x. I worked for x for approximately 10 years within the x as a Heavy Plant Operator working across the x and x waste sites.
My role involved operating large and potentially dangerous heavy machinery around staff, contractors, and members of the public on a daily basis.
I resigned on 13/02/2026 following what I believe was a prolonged pattern of retaliatory treatment, workplace bullying/intimidation, unresolved health and safety concerns, and serious deterioration in my mental health. The final straw incident occurred on 09/02/2026.
Re-Grading Dispute & Retaliation
Between approximately 2022 and late 2025, myself and my colleague x led a re-grading dispute on behalf of approximately 12 heavy plant drivers across the two council waste sites.
The process lasted approximately three years and became extremely stressful. I believe council procedures and policies were repeatedly ignored or manipulated during the process, including the removal of appeal rights from council policy during the dispute.
I hold extensive contemporaneous evidence including:
- hundreds of emails
- union correspondence
- HR correspondence
- evidence of late-night emails caused by stress and pressure
- evidence showing HR were specifically informed that the process was negatively affecting my mental health and the mental health of colleagues
This is particularly important because management and HR were already aware that I had previously been absent from work during two lengthy periods related to depression and mental health difficulties.
On 15/02/2025, I sent a contemporaneous email to my union specifically expressing concerns that retaliatory behaviour may occur if the re-grading succeeded.
In late 2025, after prolonged challenges and ICO enquiries, the council eventually agreed to the re-grading.
Following this successful outcome, I believe bullying, hostility, retaliatory behaviour, and fault-finding escalated significantly.
Examples included:
- management attempting to remove bank holiday working arrangements
- incorrectly stating staff would need annual leave for medical appointments despite not being flexi workers
- management later backtracking once challenged
- supervisors creating division between drivers and agency/site staff by repeatedly commenting that drivers were “on much more money now”
- increasing blame culture and fault-finding towards staff involved in the re-grading process
- drying room heating being deliberately turned down before management left site, resulting in work clothing and boots remaining wet or damp the following morning
I believe this behaviour created an increasingly toxic atmosphere on site and significantly worsened my mental health.
I also have witness evidence from a site supervisor confirming discussions and incidents relating to some of these matters.
Health & Safety Concerns
There were multiple ongoing health and safety concerns which I believe were not properly addressed over several years.
These included:
- lack of proper fire alarm testing
- only 2 out of 3 extraction/heater fans functioning in the transfer station for approximately seven years
- lack of effective dust suppression systems
- concerns regarding airborne dust exposure
- issues involving emergency stop systems
I also retained photographic evidence relating to the drying room heater controls.
I believe many of these issues were well known within the department but were not properly resolved despite concerns being raised.
Mental Health Deterioration & Safety Concerns
Over time, the stress, retaliatory treatment, toxic working environment, and unresolved health and safety concerns significantly affected my mental health.
Management and HR were aware I had struggled with depression and stress and had periods of sickness absence.
By the final months of my employment, I no longer believed I was safe to continue operating heavy machinery weighing up to approximately 32 tons.
I experienced multiple near misses while operating machinery because my concentration and mental wellbeing had deteriorated significantly due to the prolonged stress, hostility, retaliatory treatment, and toxic working environment I was working under.
This caused me genuine fear and concern because these machines are potentially lethal if operated without full concentration and mental focus. I became increasingly concerned that continuing to work in that environment created a serious risk not only to myself, but also to co-workers, contractors, and members of the public attending the site.
I am now under the care of a psychiatrist in relation to the trauma and mental health difficulties I believe were caused and significantly worsened by my employment experiences.
Final Straw Incident – 09/02/2026
The final straw incident occurred on 09/02/2026 and involved a supervisor who I believe had contributed significantly to the toxic and divisive working environment.
While operating machinery in the transfer station, an issue occurred involving a pin coming loose on a machine attachment. Shortly afterwards, the supervisor accused me of failing to grease machinery properly, which I strongly dispute.
Shortly before confronting the supervisor, I experienced another near miss while operating machinery because I was mentally overwhelmed and distracted by the ongoing stress and treatment at work.
I confronted the supervisor and told him directly that I believed he had been bullying staff and creating unnecessary stress and risk through his behaviour.
This incident made me realise I could no longer safely continue operating heavy machinery in that environment.
I formally resigned four days later on 13/02/2026.
Grievance Concerns
I did not submit a formal grievance prior to resignation because, over a number of years, there had been a culture of intimidation and fear of repercussions within the department.
I also witnessed repeated examples where HR and management, in my opinion, failed to properly address concerns raised by staff.
In 2022, I specifically requested a confidential meeting with the Chief Executive regarding management behaviour, staff welfare, and health and safety concerns. This request was not granted and I was directed back towards departmental management.
I made it clear in writing at the time that I felt intimidated and wanted the matter handled confidentially.
Due to my experiences over the years and worsening mental health, I had lost confidence that a formal grievance process would properly protect me or lead to meaningful change.
Evidence Available
I currently hold substantial evidence including:
- contemporaneous emails spanning several years
- union correspondence
- HR correspondence
- witness statements
- photographs
- resignation correspondence
- medical evidence
- evidence relating to retaliation concerns following re-grading
- evidence showing concerns were raised internally before resignation
- evidence which I believe demonstrates council procedures and policies were not properly followed
