Newish player, frustrated and not sure what to do.
I'm a new/returning player. I played some of overwatch 1 near release, but never played much or competitively.
I've been playing lots of damage 5v5 and got to gold 5 in a day after being hardstuck silver. My mains are Tracer and Widowmaker.
I've been really leaning into learning Tracer. She is so much fun, and I enjoy playing well on her. However even if it seems I can do well or provide value by being a consistent annoyance to the backline and drain resources, sometimes it feels my individual value doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things.
I'm by no means a good or perfect player. I'm a very mid player. I probably don't see many mistakes I commit in games.
I've been trying to maintain my gold 5, and it just seems impossible. I win a couple times, then lose harder and lose more points when I do. I go to silver 1, then back to gold 5.
I could be playing better for sure. The last two games I played trying to defend my gold 5, my tank keeps on diving and leaving the team behind. I try to play around it, initiating when he is diving, but It feels incredibly difficult to provide value as tracer when this happens.
I realize that there's a whole lot of importance on the tank in this game, and it seems unwinnable sometimes when he's struggling.
However, if I'm playing solo queue, how do I consistently carry as tracer, or as any DPS, to win consistently and actually rank up? Is it better to swap more often to try and counter? Any tracer mains have any advice?
I come from Tarkov, so a lot of emphasis is placed on the individual player, and that's what I'm used to. In this game, it feels like even when you're playing well and learning and really trying to improve, there are games where it feels impossible to provide enough value as a solo or to have enough individual impact to where you win a game despite having struggling teammates.
Side notes, but I have also seen that turning off text-chat has been for the better. I had no idea this game had such a toxic playerbase. Also, the tank on my team had no rank, so I'm assuming he was doing placements or hidden mmr? Either way it just felt unfair to me.
