Check out "Getting Worked by a Yakuza in a Bathhouse" for a good dose of comedy, drama and romance!

Synopsis:

>My father passed away with a debt of 10 million yen and now I'm the one who has to pay it all back to this Yakuza called Hebizuka...?!
I'm left on edge with this young Yakuza clinging to me, but I'll keep the bathhouse running today and onward!

I finally got around to read this series, and I'm having so much fun so far!

The story has a very comedic tone at its core, where Miyako is placed in all sort of silly situations that make her have the funniest expressions you'll ever see. But it also has more serious moments sprinkled here and there where we get to learn more about both Miyako's and Hebizuka's lives. And finally, we're rewarded with surprisingly cute/romantic moments among it all.

I think Miyako is a very interesting main character: between mourning her late father, learning how to run a business that she is increasingly becoming more passionate about, and mending her relationship with art, she goes through a lot in this story. And, on top of Hebizuka, she'll be meeting a lot of lively people who add even more charm to the story.

There are currently 18 chapters in English on MangaPlaza: https://mangaplaza.com/title/0303012352/

Right now (until the end of August), you can read the 5 first chapters without extra cost with a Premium subcription (which you can get a free trial of), so I hope more people can go and give it a try! The first chapter will always be free.

The series was also licensed in French under the title "Le Yakuza des bains publics (et moi): the first two volumes are already out, and the next one is coming out next month.

And for those of you who have already read it, I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!

The August 2026 of Moe Magazine has a special feature to celebrate LaLa's 50th anniversary

The issue features a "collection of masterpieces that transcended the boundaries of shoujo manga and graced the pages of the magazine LaLa".

The beautiful cover was drawn by Yumiko Ooshima, featuring Chibi-neko from "Wata no Kunihoshi" (The Star of Cottonland), that started serializing in LaLa in 1978. The series also received an anime adaptation in 1984. A clear file of Chibi-neko is included as a special bonus with this issue.

It also includes various interviews:

  • Conversation between Natsumi Itsuki (Jyu Oh Sei, OZ) and Nakaji Yuki (Junai Labyrinth, Venus wa Kataomoi): "Us back then"
  • Conversation between Reiko Shimizu (Himitsu ~Top Secret~, Kaguya-hime) and Yuko Higuchi (a professional painter): "Enchanted by the beauty of tragedy"
  • Minako Narita (Cipher): "Minako Narita's never-ending life as a manga artist"

Moe is a magazine pertaining to picture books published by Hakusensha (which is the publisher behind shoujo magazines such as Hana to Yume and, you guessed it, LaLa).

*If you are interested in purchasing this issue outside of Japan, you might need to use a proxy service (it's also available on Amazon JP from what I can see). There doesn't seem to be a digital version either.

I mostly wanted to share it because I found the cover very lovely, and it's interesting to see shoujo manga being discussed in a magazine that doesn't typically revolve about this topic!

New josei license by Aloha Comics (their first manga license): After Märchen

Synopsis by Aloha Comics:

>Have you ever wondered what comes after the so-called “happily ever after”? Brothers Jacob and Wilhelm don’t have to — they make their living cleaning up the messes left behind by those whose fairy tales didn’t end quite the way you were told.

>From acclaimed manga creator Tajima Ikuno comes After Märchen, a hauntingly beautiful fantasy that reimagines the world beyond classic fairy tales.

The first volume (out of two) will release around August-September 2026. It will be a hardcover with a dust jacket, and will include a special bonus (TBA).

You can already preorder it on their website: https://aloha.store/products/ever-after-vol-1

This is Aloha Comic's very first manga license! They typically publish manhua and indie comics, so this is exciting news, especially since their books usually include bonus merch, which is something that's been very lacking among other American manga publishers.

You’re Mine, Right? by Asagi Chiyoharu (story) & Takayama Chizu (art)

>Hikari is nothing more than a simple employee at the digital streaming and VR app company, ROCK FLOOR, built by the capable Kaito. Eight years ago, when Kaito rescued Hikari from a train groper, she had developed deep-seeded feelings for him that she had kept securely hidden. Hikari continues to work closely with Kaito, burying her feelings deep inside. That is, until a simple mixer triggers a change in their relationship...

The author, Asagi Chiyoharu, has a three other series available in English: Hello, Nice to Meet You. Let's Get Divorced.; My Condolences, but Starting Today You're My Wife; The Coldhearted CEO's Passionate Proposal: Wasn't the Marriage Contract Supposed to Be Over?!

Rose & Lies: I Accidentally Seduced the Knight I Hate (Light Novel) by Midori Takako (story) and Takamura Fumi (art)

>Roselia was born and raised to be the next crown princess...until Hildegard was chosen for the position instead. Ordered by her father, Roselia is to drug Hildegard with an aphrodisiac and have her spend a night with the prince's head guard knight, Rolf. Unable to betray her own conscience, Roselia tries to back out of the plan...but after being snared by another ploy, Roselia ends up drinking the aphrodisiac in front of Rolf!

Unfortunately, being born to rival families, Roselia and Rolf are meant to be enemies, not lovers. Despite her reluctance to follow through with her father's plans, Roselia knows how dangerous it will be if anyone finds out the truth. In a desperate attempt to protect her family, Roselia resorts to a risky lie. "I love you." To her surprise, Rolf replies with a heartfelt confession?! "I've always loved you, too."

*light novels don't fall under the same demographic classifications as manga; in this case, this LN is tagged as "TL" (teen's love), but it could also be considered joseimuke (women as a target audience), so I chose to include it with this announcement

The author, Midori Takako, has another series in English: Before You Discard Me, I Shall Have My Way With You (manga)

New KManga license: L♡DK Pink (sequel to L♡DK) by Watanabe Ayu

Synopsis:

>It's been several years since high school, and now Aoi and Shusei are 23 years old and still living together…but their romance hasn't cooled a bit! What does the future have in store for these lovebirds in their adult days?

And if you aren't familiar with L♡DK, here is the synopsis of the prequel:

>Aoi Nishimori is a high school girl who lives alone in her own apartment, but to her surprise, she discovers that the prince of her school, Shusei Kugayama, has moved in next door! To add to this, a series of crazy happenings result in the two living together under a single roof! Shusei is known to be a heartless guy and Aoi particularly hates him after he coldly rejected her best friend, so a life of cohabitation seems like a recipe for disaster. And yet, Aoi somehow can’t stop her heart from pounding when she’s with Shusei…

It is also available on KManga, as well as in print and digital volumes (23 volumes total)

Watanabe Ayu is also known for the series Men's Life —Her Secret Life in The Boys' Dormitory— in English, complete with 4 volumes.
