Currently interning in IT at a public gov agency and wondering how realistic it is to get hired full time as a Technical Specialist there. I have 3+ years of help desk/desktop support experience, worked private sector IT before this, have my CompTIA A+, and a CIS degree.
Most of my experience is traditional IT support stuff like imaging, troubleshooting, system admin tasks in Active Directory/DHCP, asset management, and supporting Windows environments. The Technical Specialist role seems broader though with more automation, scripting, and PowerShell, which makes me a little nervous.
For people already working in government/public sector IT, does this sound like a realistic path into a full time role?
