If you could change anything about Rogue...

If you could change or adjust something related to Rogue's comic book history, powers, etc what would it be?

For me, I would bring back her father and introduce her paternal Grandparents. In her solo, it was mentioned that Owen was considered a rich kid when he met Priscilla. Presumably, he rebelled to be a hippie and that's when all that other stuff happened. It was also shown that Rogue held fond memories of her father and eagerly expected to see him in their old family home. I would love to explore the paternal side of Rogue's family and her dynamic with her father. I hated the deadbeat, redneck bigot version TAS introduced. I think it would be more interesting if she had previously had a good relationship with him, and he, in turn, agreed to let Mystique and Irene adopt Rogue after she ran away from Carrie.

I would also love to throw Rogue and Nightcrawler back into Mystique and Destiny's orbit for a Brotherhood ongoing. Temporarily shelve them from a main X-Men team for a year or two, so we can have a focused storyline about their family.

Alt title: 傷物令嬢ですが継母になりました~私を追い出そうとしていた家族から溺愛されるまで~

Summary:

"Yvette, eldest daughter of the Marquis Cleaves, has always dreamed of “bearing and raising the children of the man she loves,” just like the mother she admires. One day, she is told that her fiancé has died in battle. At his funeral, the crown prince cruelly declares that she is a “barren, damaged woman” and orders her to marry Duke Owen Langford, a man feared as a “war‑madman.” To protect House Cleaves, Yvette accepts the political marriage—only to discover that Owen already has three children. The children, unable to accept a new stepmother, scheme to drive her out of the house. Can Yvette overcome their rejection and misunderstandings to become a true family with them? And what hidden truth lies behind this arranged marriage?"

Status: Ongoing (23 chapters as of today).

Characters:

  • Yvette (Cleves) Langford (17)(FL)
  • Grand Duke Owen Langford (legal husband, potential ML)
  • Louis Langford (15) (Eldest son, not a ML candidate so far)
  • Natalia Langford (12) (second child, only daughter)
  • Hayden Langford (6) (second son, youngest child)
  • Claudia Langford (former Duchess, died 6 months prior to start of story)
  • Former Crown Prince Eldred Ruyeben (official heir born from Empress, second son of Emperor, former fiance of Yvette. Deceased)
  • Current Crown Prince Gilbert Ruyeben (First son of the Emperor, born to a concubine, potentially obsessed with Eldred. Related to Duke Langford through maternal bloodline).

I picked this story up on a whim, and so far I've been pleasantly surprised. It's still early in the story but I'm liking what has been shown thus far. The FL, Yvette, is a good mix of soft and strong. The potential ML and her legal husband, Duke Langford, is seemingly the typical Duke of the North type and feared for his military prowess, but he's honestly just a normal person and not a deadbeat dad which is always rare in these stories!

The story takes place in the capital instead of immediately returning to Duke Langford's Northern territory, so that's also a nice change of pace but I feel like we'll see them go North in the future. There's some political intrigue that's starting to reveal itself slowly. The new crown Prince, Gilbert, is the first son of the Emperor. Gilbert was born to a concubine because the Emperor was forced to have an heir after the Empress had years long fertility issues. Eventually the Empress gives birth to Eldred 5 years after Gilbert is born, and she dies a few years later. Eldred was named the crowned Prince despite being the second son. The Duke is part of Gilbert's faction because Gilbert's mother is the Duke's Aunt. Yvette's family has always been part of the Eldred's faction.

We haven't gotten enough backstory about the brothers yet but Gilbert may have been a bro-con - even the Emperor noticed Gilbert seemed to be obsessed with Eldred. Gilbert seems to have some interest in Yvette as well. Personally, I feel as though he forced this marriage to protect Yvette from his mother who always hated her. But at this point too much is up in the air.

**Yvette**:

Due to her circumstances, she was placed into a political marriage with a recently widowed Duke with three children. Yvette is still grieving the loss of her fiance, the former crown Prince Eldred, who was also her childhood friend. She agrees to the marriage to protect her family who hid her medical history from the royal family (the sitting Emperor was already aware and agreed to hide the information for years.), but Yvette is fully aware that she is considered "damaged goods" in the eyes of society and she will never get a better deal than marrying a Grand Duke with three children she can help raise.

Perhaps it's due to her age (17), FL does feel a bit naive at certain points. For instance, she is immediately bullied by the staff at the Duke's residence and at first she doesn't say anything because she doesn't want to trouble the Duke and she feels like no one would be on her side anyway.

Okay, fine. I'll accept that.

But a couple chapters later when she overhears that the children's Nanny (who was also the bio mom's best friend from childhood) and the children's maternal grandmother plotting to get rid of her and admitting they told the staff to mistreat her, Yvette takes that information and does nothing. She literally said that instead of reprimanding the staff for willfully disrespecting her and her status as Duchess, she will choose to ignore it and work harder on her own to gain their recognition.

GIRL, DID YOU NOT OVERHEAR THEM SAYING THEY HATE YOU AND WANT YOU GONE?!

A ridiculous woman. Thankfully, it doesn't last long because the maternal grandmother plots something big and gets exposed like 3 chapters later and after that everything in the household is resolved. The plot shifts to the Palace stuff afterwards. Mind you, the maternal grandmother is also an idiot and her big plan was horrifically short-sighted and completely insane. So I didn't really care for those plotlines because they went from generic to nonsensical and stupid.

As for romance, there's not much going on except for little moments where both Yvette and Duke Langford come to understand each other in small ways. Both are still grieving their lost loves. The Duke was married for as long as the FL was alive and his wife died of sickness only 6 months before the story began. He's not interested, yet, in Yvette but he intends to be a good husband to her and a good father to his children. I do think it's incredibly funny that this man is supposed to be the same age as her own father, or close to it, but he looks maybe 3-4 years older than her. The Duke must be guarding the fountain of youth somewhere in his domain.

There's no second ML yet and I don't believe it will be the son either. That relationship is more like recognizing that Yvette is not some wicked woman who seduced his father and who is trying to take his mother's place. Recent chapters have shown Louis and Yvette finally melting that initial frosty relationship and becoming more familial. If anything, the third parties to Yvette and Duke's future relationship is the memory of their lost lovers.

I really wish there were more episodes available to read because I'm definitely interested in this story premise and the characters. I want to see FL and ML overcome their grief naturally and fall for each other organically. There are small hints as they get more comfortable with each other, so I can't wait to see how it progresses.
