80W for $80

I bought a broken Peavy bandit 112 silver stripe combo for $60. It cost me $20 to fix it. I converted the combo into an amp head myself. It's extremely loud. Perfect for rehearsals and gigs. I'm running my pedalboard into the fx loop return. Until I can afford a 2k amp head, this will surely do, and I love how it sounds. Just wanted to share.

Tuning to B standard

I joined a Death Metal band that plays in B standard tuning. All my guitars are 24.75" or 25.5" scale length but one. When I put thicker strings on the guitar, it feels like I’m playing on power line cables. I know that the lower you tune the thicker the string gauge should be for stability, but I'm literally fighting the guitar rather than playing it with 12-62 (kind of a sweet spot because lighter gauges feel loose). These strings hold the tuning, good tension, awful feel. Is there any way around this? How do I make the guitar feel less like a bass and play comfortably in B? It's also hard to solo as I play most of the leads.

Things I've considered so far:

  1. Play my only baritone guitar 29.75" and do Olympic-level finger splits.

  2. Buy a pitch shifter pedal and learn to play with latency.

  3. Buy a cheap 7 string guitar and relearn the scales because I never played it.

  4. Urge the city council to make B standard tuning illegal

Any advice much appreciated.
