What is something really good done by an ancestor of yours?

Have you come across someone who did a major good deed? I don't mean like supporting a military event, but just kindness. I was terribly impressed with a story from a friend's family history (ok, cheating, since this isn't in my own tree) During the great depression, her great-grandparents' neighbors starting losing their farms from repossession by banks. Then the banks bundled the debt and started selling the debts for pennies on the dollar (maybe because they couldn't get buyers at full price? idk) My friends' ancestors must have had some non-bank capital, because they bought the debt for many of their neighbors. Then they gave the land back to the original owners. Apparently they "saved" an entire small Iowa town.

What have you found?

Is anyone good at working with Nova Scotia vital records?

Asking for a friend. Heh. No, really. I'm helping a friend establish Canadian citizenship by descent and we'd really like to have some record in Canada documenting his ancestor's birth or baptism or something. We're just feeling like we're swimming in molasses trying to find anything online.

Looking for Amos Archibald Quinlan, b. 29 Jan 1857 in New Ross, Lunenberg County, Nova Scotia. Possibly Anglican parish records; I just haven't found them online, so far.

I'll be visiting Macomb, IL this summer. It's not too far from the Mississippi. On the map it looks somewhat near Keokuk, Iowa. Anyone know where I might hunt for seaglass in that area?
