If I had a nickel for every time I read a short scifi book set in first person present tense about a guy who has to fight with other versions of himself for his wife, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

I just finished Dark Matter, great book and no spoilers, but I can’t help but see how close it is to another very good book, Mickey7. Different tones, different messages, but similar.

I highly suggest both of them, and if you read Mickey7, don’t watch the movie. It isn’t very good. But I’ve heard the Dark Matter show on Apple TV is good, but I haven’t watched that either, so…

Are there smaller editions of AT books? I went to a bookstore to purchase Eyes of the Void and I saw CoT next to it. Normal occurrence. But it looked oddly small. I opened it up and saw it had something of around 330-50 pages. I thought that can’t be right.

So I head home and grab my copy of CoT, and sure enough I was right. Something like 597 pages. Is this a smaller, more digestible version of the book, or just a shrunken down smaller font kind of deal where they could cram in more words per page? I’m just confused.

I am definitely not unique in this take, but I think it’s real, or perhaps it may be real. I believe that the house is a physical manifestation of either Navy’s family crumbling or something else. And as Navy and Karen came together again, the house ceases to exist and takes everything with it. But the memory of the house on Ash Tree Lane and some artifacts remain. Namely, Exploration #4 has evidence that it existed, and the big Z himself remembered it somehow (perhaps luck, perhaps he became obsessed with it early on?).

I believe, at least in the lore of HoL (the book within the book) that the house is a sort of psychological entity that only exists because of human beings. So, if that is so, perhaps (very large perhaps) it is like an anomaly in the world memetically and antimemetically. (and yes, that IS a direct reference to SCP)

This is most likely just me rambling on. I am a sucker for physical manifestations of human experiences that serve as metaphors but are actually a real thing in the story, like Porco Rosso or Life of Pi.
